As I’ve studied our “ComeFollow Me” manual and prepared to teach our Sunday School class at church, I’ve remembered Nephi. Nephi, son of Lehi, exemplified one who sought Christ regularly and diligently, and one who found profound answers as he listened to and followed the Holy Ghost.

Nephi’s father, Lehi, was a prophet who led his family into the wilderness and away from everything they knew and loved for God’s purposes. Nephi trusted that his father was an inspired man who loved and followed God, and therefore, Nephi followed his father’s admonitions and by so doing, he also followed God. Nephi had great faith. But Nephi wasn’t content only to listen and follow. He desired more. He sought the Lord diligently.

He shares this with us in 1 Nephi, chapter 10 verses 17 and 19:

17 And it came to pass after I, Nephi, having heard all the words of my father, concerning the things which he saw in a vision, and also the things which he spake by the power of the Holy Ghost, which power he received by faith on the Son of God—and the Son of God was the Messiah who should come—I, Nephi, was desirous also that I might see, and hear, and know of these things, by the power of the Holy Ghost, which is the gift of God unto all those who diligently seek him, as well in times of old as in the time that he should manifest himself unto the children of men.

19 For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost, as well in these times as in times of old, and as well in times of old as in times to come; wherefore, the course of the Lord is one eternal round.

Indeed, Nephi had the mysteries of God unfolded unto him. In the following chapters of the Book of Mormon, we learn many amazing truths along with Nephi as he’s personally guided by the Spirit of the Lord to receive answers to the questions in his heart.

The question we must ask ourselves today is: did Nephi share this with us just to make us wish that we could experience a similar outpouring of knowledge and truth from the Spirit, Or was he admonishing us to also seek God diligently and desire that WE, too, might”see, and hear and know of these [same] things?”

In other words, can the mysteries of God REALLY be unfolded to US as they were to him?

YES!

As I’ve listened to others share their experiences studying the guide, “ComeFollow Me“, I believe it IS leading many of us to seek God diligently and to find Him. As we study The New Testament and life of Jesus Christ together as families, friends, and neighbors, I believe the mysteries of God shall beunfolded to us and we will receive an abundance of truth, light and joy.

Let’s follow Nephi’s counsel to seek diligently, and I know, that as Nephi promised, we SHALL find!
