The Lord has beckoned us to follow him and be shepherds… to gather the flock. How ironic that the shepherds at His birth we’re keeping watching by night and an angel came and told them where to find the baby Jesus. As soon as the angels left, the shepherds left to go and find Jesus. They acted immediately. Had they procrastinated they may have missed him, because soon after his birth, the Lord told Joseph to leave Bethlehem .
Luke 2: 8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
We have been given the Holy Ghost as a daily constant guide to let us know where to find Christ in our everyday lives. If we could follow the example of the Shepards, and follow the Holy Ghost immediately we would be able to stay in the light always. If we choose to delay, and not move when prompted we too could find ourselves among the same force that sought to take away the life of Christ in Bethlehem. Satan is ever present and seeks to destroy Christ in our lives today as much as he was able to use power to convince Herod to destroy Christ at his birth. Satan won’t win, ever….If we follow Christ…by listening to and responding to the Holy Ghost immediately.
“Faithfulness in obeying the commandments and keeping our covenants will protect us from being deceived.” -Robert D. Hales
At Jesus’s birth, the star that led to Christ was the brightest in the sky. Today it is the same…we can recognize those things that are from and of Christ, for they will be the brightest. Everything about Jesus is light! Light as in bright, shining, glowing, radiant…light as in weightless, free. If we want to find Jesus in this darkening world we need to only look for the light. As we find the light of the Lord, we too will radiate and be able to be that light for others that will direct them to Christ.
Think of the opposite…what does the adversary represent…darkness, heavy, gloomy, thick slimy, trapped, chained…
If we live in a way that the Holy Ghost, whose main purpose it to fill us with light, direct us to light, and protect us from darkness, is always present we have no reason to worry. For if he is present in our daily lives then we are like the shepherds of old and we are following Christ. We need to respond immediately and GO …to Christ! Hold fast to the Iron rod.
