“Brothers and sisters, we are the focus of Heavenly Father’s plan and the reason for our Savior’s mission. Each of us, individually, is Their work and Their glory.”
— Michael T. Ringwood
It is the work and glory of The Father and His son to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. We are the focus of Their plan. We are the reason that Jesus Christ preformed the atonement on our behalf. We are Their work and glory.
“We are God’s children, set apart for immortality and eternal life. Our destiny is to he His heirs, ”joint-heirs with Christ.” Our Father is willing to guide each of us along His covenant path with steps designed to our individual need and tailored to His plan for our ultimate happiness with Him.”
— Elder D. Todd Christofferson
We are the children of God. We can become heirs to the kingdom of The Father with Jesus Christ if we do what is right and take the necessary steps. We need to remain worthy, even in an ever increasing wicked world. We must stay on the covenant path.
“Ordinances and covenants give us access to godly power. The covenant path is the only path that leads to exaltation and eternal life.”
— Russell M. Nelson
As we make covenants with God and partake of ordinances, we are given access to godly power. That power will help us stay on the covenant path. As we stay on that path we will eventually end up with exaltation and eternal life.
“The time is fast approaching when it will require great courage for Latter-day Saints to stand up for their peculiar standards and doctrine-all of their doctrine including the more weighty principles such as the principle of freedom.”
— Ezra Taft Benson
The time is here for us to stand up for our standard and all of our doctrine—yes even some of the harsher principles. We must not bend and stand tall and strong. We must have courage to stand up for the truth.
“Faith in Jesus Christ always leads to greater hope and to feelings of charity toward others, which is the true love of Christ.”
— Elder Henry B. Eyring
The true love of Jesus Christ is greater hope and charity for all people, and to love one another as He has loved us. As we have the true love of Jesus Christ for all people, you will see His children as He sees them. By doing so you will come to see how much Christ loves you.
“A patriarchal blessing is like a road map, a guide, directing you in your walk through life. It identifies your talents and the good things that can be yours.”
— Elaine L. Jack
When Joseph Smith was still alive, many members of the church kept coming to him, asking him for revelation about their lives. Because so many people would come to Jospeh for revelation, and Joseph was becoming overwhelmed with church responsibilities as a prophet, Jesus Christ told Jospeh to ordain a patriarch. That patriarch was Joseph Smith’s father. Through patriarchal blessings, we can receive revelation for our lives through God speaking through a patriarch. That blessing is an eternal guide, for this life and the life to come.
”There, in the house of the Lord, you can learn what you need to know to be truly free. There, tucked away from turmoil and strife, is the chance to be totally unselfish-a rarity in today’s world.”
— Robert L. Simpson
The House of The Lord is a wonderful place to feel His presence, to serve, and to learn. It is a sacred place away from the world. I encourage you to go there often.
“He invites you, out of love for you and for those you love, to come to Him for peace in this life and eternal life in the world to come. He knows perfectly the storms you will face in your test as part of the plan of happiness.”
— Henry B. Eyring
Jesus Christ has a lot of love for you. He has experienced all things and understands you. Because He has experienced everything and knows everything, He invites all to come unto Him and follow Him, to receive pure happiness and fulfillment.
“I plead with you to accept the Savior’s invitation. Like a meek and loving child, accept His help. Make and keep the covenants He offers in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They will strengthen you. The Savior knows the storms and the places of safety on the way home to Him and to our Heavenly Father. He knows the way. He is the Way. I so testify in the sacred name of Jesus Christ, amen.”
— Henry B. Eyring
Accept the Savior’s invitation. Come unto Him. Jesus Christ knows the way because He is the way. Let Him help and strengthen you. Let Him be your shield and refuge.
“The road through their afflictions has been long and painful, but from somewhere came the spiritual reserves to not lose hope but to “hold on [their] way.” Somehow this incredible couple became even more Christlike. More committed. More compassionate. They believed that, in His time, God would consecrate their afflictions for their gain.”
— Elder Larry S. Kaxher
We have many hard things happen in life and at times it may seem like there is no hope. But as we endure and hold on we will see the light and the end of the tunnel. Through our trials we become more like Christ. And because of the atonement Christ knows how we feel and what we are going through.
“Because of the Savior’s atoning sacrifice, we can repent, learn from our mistakes, and not be condemned by them.”
— Elder Dale G. Renlund
Jesus Christ preformed the atonement on our behalf. Because of this we can learn from mistakes and try again. We can repent and change. We can become more like God.
“We don’t see all things. He does. The Lord told Joseph Smith in Liberty Jail that “all these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good. The Son of Man hath descended below them all. Art thou greater than he?”
— Larry S. Kacher
We don’t see, know, or understand all things. God however does. The things that happen to ourselves and others happen for a reason. We agreed with Heavenly Father before being sent to earth, to let ourselves be afflicted and tried with whatever He sees fit to afflict and try us with. We are not greater than the son of man, no one can descend below what He experienced as part of the atonement.
“Meditation is the language of the soul. It is defined as “a form of private devotion, or spiritual exercise, consisting in deep, continued reflection on some religious theme.” Meditation is a form of prayer.”
— David O. Mckay
Throughout the scriptures, we see that the prophets of old tell us to meditate upon the words of Christ, for His words will tell us all things that we should do. Meditating is a type of prayer, spending time with God while pondering His words in your mind and heart. You reflect deeply upon the words of Christ through private and quiet meditation. Often through this process is how we can better receive revelation, and better understand the words of Christ.
“Reason cannot replace revelation. Speculation won’t lead to greater spiritual knowledge but it can lead us to deception or divert us and divert our focus from what has been revealed. For example, the Savior taught his disciples, “Always pray unto the Father in my name.” We follow this pattern and direct our worship to our Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ and do not pray to Heavenly Mother.”
— Dale G. Renlund
Many people today have been hating on Elder Soares’ talk as well as other general authorities, for not including Heavenly Mother in their talks. Many people think that it is alright to pray to Her and that we should worship Her. I say this is blasphemy. This is blasphemy. Heavenly Mother is not to be prayed to. Doing so mocks God The Father, Jesus Christ, The Holy Spirit of God, as well as Heavenly Mother. It is blasphemy. Do not do it. We are not suppose to pray or worship Her. It is wrong to do so. We may not understand or know why but this is the truth.
“Brethren, let us mind our own business-that is, the calling the Lord has called us to-to do everything we can to promote the good of the Cause of Truth, and never ask how big we are, or inquire who we are; but let it be, ’What can I do to build up the Kingdom of God upon the Earth?”
— Brigham Young
Let us be quick to the call of The Lord. Let us promote righteousness in our actions and behavior. We should often ask ourselves how we can further build the kingdom of God and gather Israel.
“In the gospel of Jesus Christ you have help from both sides of the veil and you must never forget that. When disappointment and discouragement strike—and they will—you remember and never forget that if our eyes could be opened we would see horses and chariots of fire as far as the eye can see riding at reckless speed to come to our protection. They will always be there, these armies of heaven, in defense of Abraham’s seed.”
— Elder Jeffery R. Holland
You have help on both sides of the veil. You have family and friends to help you on earth, and you have Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and Their angles helping you from the other side. You must never forget this. You will never be alone and you will always have help.
“Heavenly Father and His beloved Son, Jesus Christ, stand ready to help, I urge you to increase your efforts to seek Their help.”
— Russell M. Nelson
Jesus Christ overcame all things. He overcame the world and we can too with His help. Turn to Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father and they will help you. They want to help you and are waiting for you to ask for their help. Seek their help. Increase your efforts to do so.
“My dear brothers and sisters, may you focus on the temple in ways you never have before, I bless you to grow closer to God and Jesus Christ every day. I love you. May God be with you until we meet again.”
— Russell M. Nelson
We need to do daily things that will bring us closer to Jesus Christ and God. Daily scripture study, temple attendance and focus, prayer, studying conference talks, pondering the words of Christ, etc. As we do things to become closer to God and Christ, we will be more prepared to meet them. We will have peace and rest. President Russell M. Nelson knows this and he loves us. He has told us these things that we may be prepared for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. I sustain President Nelson. I love him. I listen to him. He is the prophet of God as this moment in time.
“When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;”
— Psalm 8:3
The craftsmanship of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ is truly remarkable and beyond description. The things you see on this earth and in the sky are breathtaking. The beauty of the things they have created, and the things that they are creating, is the best art work you can ever find. They are master artists. The reason Their creations are so beautiful is because of you. This is one of the ways Christ and Heavenly Father show us Their love for us.
“As we strive to build faith in the Savior, we may not fully comprehend God’s love for us, and we may obey His laws out of a sense of obligation. Guilt may even become our primary motivator rather than love. A real connection to Him may not yet have been experienced.”
— Larry S. Kacher
We may never completely understand or know how much God loves us. We may even just obey His commandments because we don’t want to be punished. But as we develop a better relationship with God, we come to a better understanding of His love for us and His children. We start to obey the commandments because we love Him, and not because we don’t want to be punished.
“But we were at peace. We wanted the infant to live, but the Lord had other plans. Accepting His will in place of our own is key to finding joy no matter our circumstances.”
— Larry S. Kacher
Sometimes things happen and we don’t want them to happen, but God does. We do not know all things but He does. We need to do our best to trust God since we have limited understanding.
“Our covenant connection with God and Jesus Christ is the channel through which we can receive the capacity and strength to ”heed not.” And this bond is strengthened as we continually hold fast to the rod of iron.”
— David A. Bednar
We are commanded to heed not the wicked. How can we do this when it is so hard to do so? Make covenants with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Through those covenants we will have strength to heed not what the wicked will say.
“As our faith in the Savior increases, we observe a subtle shift that includes a divine understanding of our relationship with God—a steady movement away from “What do I want?” to “What does God want?” Like the Savior, we want to act “not as I will, but as thou wilt.” We want to do God’s work and be an instrument in His hands.”
— Larry S. Kacher
If your faith in Jesus Christ increases, your desires shift. You no longer want to do what you desire, but what God desires. You want to do His will over yours. You start to desire to be a tool in His hands to build His kingdom.
“Being righteous doesn’t mean being perfect or never making mistakes. It means developing an inner connection with God, repenting of our sins and mistakes, and freely helping others.”
— Sharon Eubank
Those that are righteous sin. They are imperfect. But what makes the difference between the righteous and the wicked, is that the righteous repent. They listen to God and strive to change. They always try to do what is right.
“Unbelief blocks our ability to see miracles, whereas a mindset of faith in the Savior unlocks the powers of heaven.”
— Larry S. Kacher
We must believe to see. Those that don’t have faith to see will not see. They will not hear. They will not know. If we have not faith or belief we will be blind to miracles and the mystery’s of God.
“As priesthood holders, we have a sacred duty to always stand for truth and right. The priesthood, by definition, is God’s authority given to man to do the things that He would do if He were here. That means we are not only His witnesses, we are His representatives.”
— M. Russell Ballard
The priesthood is the power of God. It is the power of God, given to man, to do His work. Through it the sick are healed, the dead are raised, the blind receive their sight, and many more wonders and miracles occurs. Those that hold that power are witnesses and representatives of The Lord Jesus Christ.
“There is absolutely nothing in this world that will provide more comfort and happiness than a testimony of the truth.”
— Thomas S. Monson
Having a testimony of the truth is valuable beyond words. This world is full of lies and deception, and if you personally know the truth, that is powerful. Knowing the truth will bring you comfort and happiness. You will not be able to be deceived when you know the truth. How do you know the truth? Through the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost testifies the truth of all things.
“Later I returned but with a different mindset. I would go simply as an instrument in the Lord’s hands, with no other desire than to follow the Spirit.”
— Larry S. Kacher
Missionary work can be difficult. Those that spread the gospel need to master humility. They must be humble, only servants to Christ, that are tools in His hands. Their only desire should be to follow the Spirit and God’s will.
“I know it is sometimes hard to stand for truth and right. Yet we need to be positive examples if we are to help others find a better way. Thankfully, we can draw from those who have gone before us.”
— Elder M. Russell Ballard
Standing up for the truth and what’s right can be extremely hard. We should always do what is right, no matter the cost. We need to do our best to have our light shine, to be righteous examples to those around us.
“I pray for you every day.”
— President Nelson
President Nelson prays for all of us daily! What a valuable piece of information!
Again, after Jesus had fed the five thousand He told the twelve to dismiss the multitude, but Jesus went to the mountain for solitude. The historian says, ”When the evening was come, He was there alone.” (Matthew 14:13) Meditation! Prayer!
— David O. Mckay
After feeding the five thousand, Jesus left the people and His apostles and went away to be alone. In the JST version of the Bible in Matthew, Jesus didn’t just fast for forty days but he also communed with God for that time. We can see as well in Mark 1:35, His disciples once found Christ in the early morning, in a solitary place, to pray and be with Heavenly Father. We can see from Christ’s example that it is very important to take time to be alone with Heavenly Father.
“But in reality our Father in Heaven saved me. He listened to my voice. I had heard the voice of the spirit three times before, telling me not to go to the Inca Bridge, But I had not obeyed that voice. I was in shock, I was pale, and I did not know what to say.”
— Juan A. Uceda
We need to listen to Jesus Christ when He speaks. If He says to do something, do it! If He says not to do something, don’t do it! Through the Spirit, Jesus Christ will speak to us, and it would be wise to listen to the Spirit the first time, and not the second or third time.
“We invite all men everywhere, all men of every nation and kindred and tongue and people, to come unto Christ and be perfected in him.”
— Elder Bruce R. McConkie
All are welcome to come unto Christ. His invitation extends to every nation, tongue, and people. All are welcome to come to Him and be perfect in Him. To receive peace and rest in Him.
“Many people hear the word disciple and think it means only “follower.” But genuine discipleship is a state of being. This suggests more than studying and applying a list of individual attributes. Disciples live so that the characteristics of Christ are woven into the fiber of their beings, as into a spiritual tapestry.”
— Robert D. Hales
Being a disciple of Jesus Christ is a state of being. It is a person that is trying their best to live in accordance to the teachings of Christ. It is a person that is becoming better than their past self. The attributes of Jesus Christ become their attributes.
“God had taken over. Hearts were not just touched but changed forever. Twenty-one years of unbelief were washed away by the power of the Holy Ghost. A week later, Ken was baptized. A year later, Ken and Mary Kay were sealed in the house of the Lord for time and for all eternity.”
— Larry S. Kacher
When God takes over, is when miracles occur. Hearts can be touched by the spirit and changed forever. President Nelson has asked us to expect miracles in our life. I bet you if you look close enough every day, you will see miracles that have happened every day. God is a god of miracles, and miracles still happen. Seek for miracles. Expect miracles.
“And as we humble ourselves and exercise faith in Jesus Christ, the grace of Christ and His infinite atoning sacrifice make it possible to change.”
— Kevin S. Hamilton
Jesus Christ’s mercy and sacrifice makes it possible to change. As we become humble and have faith in Jesus Christ we can change. We must come to Him with a broken heart and a contrite spirit to be forgiven. Only through His sacrifice is change and forgiveness possible.
“There is no greater force against evil in this world than the love of a man and woman in marriage.”
— Cardinal Raymond Burke
The greatest power in existence against evil is marriage between a righteous man and a righteous woman that love each other, within the covenant of eternal marriage. Through them the powers of darkness retreat, the Devil and his forces rage, and light prevails. The family holds tremendous power against the forces of darkness, especially when founded upon the principles of Jesus Christ. The family is ordained of God.
“If you find your current path in conflict with your faith in the Savior, then please find your way back to Him. Your exaltation and that of your posterity depend on it.”
— Larry S. Kacher
Find your way to Jesus Christ and stay right next to Him. He is the way, the only way. He will lead you back to your Heavenly home. If your path has conflict with your faith in Christ, you need to change.
“As we come unto Christ and journey to higher ground, we will desire to spend more time in His temples, because the temples represent higher ground, sacred ground.”
— Jospeh B. Witthlin
As we through the help of the Savior rise above the world and live the higher law, we will have a greater desire to spend time with Him. We will treasure His words above gold. We will spend more time in His house, the temple. Rise above the world with His help.
“The reverent moments as priesthood holders pass the sacrament can become sacred to us.”
— Peter F. Meurs
When the sacrament is being passed, we should be thinking of Christ’s atonement. That time should be a period of remembering Him and what He has done for us. I have personally found that time can become a sacred time as we truly remember Him and His sacrifice.
“I have nothing more to give you”—a phrase and a ring with the design of a hand holding a heart, an expression of love from a wife to her husband.”
— Eduardo Gavarret
Can we truly say we have nothing more to give God, our spouses, and even our children? Have we truly done our best to show our love and appreciation?
“It was the first time I would teach a lesson, but Brother Espinoza was there by my side, and that was the day of a mighty change of heart for me. From that moment on, I began to keep the Sabbath day holy, and over time, in the words of President Russell M. Nelson, the Sabbath day has become a delight.”
— Eduardo Gavarret
Regardless if we are doing something hard or something for the first time, we will have people to help us, either on this or the other side of the veil. As we start to keep the Sabbath Holy, that day will truly become a delight. We will eagerly await for the Sabbath.
“Man unquestionably has impressive powers… But after all our obedience and good works, we cannot be saved from the effects of our sins without the grace extended by the atonement of Jesus Christ… Man cannot earn his own salvation.”
— Dallin H. Oaks
Mankind can do many things. He or she can do much good but we cannot be saved from sins on our own. We cannot be clean on our own. Jesus Christ is the only one who can clean us. We also cannot earn our own salvation. Christ is our final and just judge.
“We live in a world where iniquity abounds and hearts turn from God because of the precepts of men.”
— Elder Quentin L. Cook
This world does not live in accordance to Celestial law. Many abound in wickedness and turn away from God. The world gets worse every day and abominations are everywhere. We cannot believe or listen to the precepts and philosophies of man. Only listen to the living waters, which is the word of God.
“The prophets, seers, and revelators have had and still have the responsibility and privilege of receiving and declaring the word of God for the world. Individual members, parents, and leaders have the right to declare the word of God beyond the limits of their own responsibility.”
— Elder James E. Faust
We all have the ability to receive revelation for ourselves, with exceptions for others. We need to remember that we cannot receive revelation for other people unless we have the authority from God to do so. Parents have the authority to receive revelation for their children, the bishop for his ward, and the prophet for the entire church.
“We can change our behavior. Our very desires can change. How? There is only one way. True change—permanent change—can come only through the healing, cleansing, and enabling power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. He loves you—each of you! He allows you to access His power as you keep His commandments, eagerly, earnestly, and exactly. It is that simple and certain. The gospel of Jesus Christ is a gospel of change!”
— President Russell M. Nelson
Change is possible. We can change our desires and our habits. Permanent change can only come from repenting through the atonement of Jesus Christ. He can help you permanently change, but change doesn’t happen overnight. You just constantly work with Christ to improve.
“I do not believe members of this church can be in full harmony with the Savior without sustaining his living prophets on the earth, the President of the Church. If we do not sustain the living prophet, whoever he may be, we die spiritually. Ironically some have died spiritually by exclusively following prophets who have long been dead.”
— James E. Faust
We cannot be in harmony with Christ if we do not sustain His mouthpiece, which is His prophet. The prophet of God speaks for God, and when he speaks we should take his counsel seriously. The counsel and instruction of living prophets dominate over past prophets, since old and dead prophets no longer speak for the living.
“We can begin our preparation for the sacrament well before sacrament meeting begins. Saturday May be a good time to contemplate our spiritual progress and preparation.”
— Elder Peter F. Meurs
It is important for us to worthily prepare for, and partake of the sacrament. It is a time for us to spend thinking about Christ’s ultimate sacrifice for us, a time to be spiritually filled. The sacramental ordinance brings us power as we keep our covenants and worthily partake of it.
”If we do not our duty in regarded to missionary service, then I am convinced that God will hold us responsible for the people we might have saved have we done our duty.”
— Spencer W. Kimball
Those that have the priesthood have a priesthood responsibility to serve a mission. They have a responsibility to preach the word of God and serve those in need. No one will force anyone to fulfill their responsibility, but if you don’t feel like God is not telling you not to serve a mission, and you don’t serve, you may be held accountable for the people you didn’t help.
”A patriarchal blessing is a revelation to the recipient, even a white line down the middle of the road, to protect, inspire, and motivate activity and righteousness. A patriarchal blessing literally contains chapters from your book of eternal possibilities.”
— Thomas S. Monson
Patriarchal blessing’s are very sacred and important to those that receive one. It is God, speaking directly to you through a patriarch in the patriarch’s own words, through the priesthood. These individual blessings are like your own guidance for your life. The blessing is truly a wonderful gift from God.
“Life is full of difficulties. Some are minor and others are major. There seems to be an unending supply of challenges for one and all. Our problem is that we often expect instantaneous solutions to such challenges, forgetting that frequently the heavenly virtue of patience is required.”
— Randy D. Funk
This mortal life is the time to prepare to meet God. It is a probationary state, we are constantly being tested. It is a time to learn and become more like God. Certain trials will help you develop certain Christlike attributes.
“The world around you is not equipped to provide the help you need to make it through this often treacherous journey.”
— President Thomas S. Monson
The things in this world cannot help you. They can only harm and distract you. You cannot receive the help you need to make it back to Heavenly Father through mortal things. The only way back to Him is through Jesus Christ. Only through Christ can you receive permanent happiness, peace, and rest. Only through Him can you be cleansed. He is the only way.
“The Lord taught how to live, then and now, in a contemptuous world. “Blessed are the peacemakers,” He declared, “for they shall be called the children of God.” By the shield of our faith in Jesus Christ, we become peacemakers, quenching—meaning to calm, cool, or extinguish—all the fiery darts of the adversary.”
— Neil L. Andersen
We must be a peacemaker to survive in these last days. We must be able to quench the fiery darts of contention, and the darts of the adversary. We need to be able to end conflicts with peace. If we cannot create peace, and remain peaceful in contentious situations, how then can we build Zion? How can we be a Zion like people?
“None of us knows the wisdom of The Lord. We do not know in advance exactly how He would get us from where we are to where we need to be but He does offer us broad outlines in our Patriarchal Blessings. We encounter many bumps, bends, and forks in the road of life that leads to the eternities.”
— James E. Faust
The Lord hold all knowledge and truth. We know very little compared to Him. He tells us things when we can’t fully understand them. It is up to use to accept His invitation to ask Him for further understanding.
“There were men in those dark ages who could communicate with God, and who, by the power of faith, could draw aside the curtain of eternity and gaze upon the face of God, have the ministering of angles, and unfold the future destinies of the world. If those were dark ages, I pray God to give me a little darkness.”
— John Taylor
If people in the dark ages, the era of apostasy could have the ministering of angels, and commune with God, don’t we have an even greater ability to commune with God? We are living in the era of restoration! Seek for miracles and the ministering of angels! Gaze upon the face of God!
“This change of heart is not an event; it takes faith, repentance, and constant spiritual work to happen. It begins when we desire to submit our will to the Lord, and it materializes when we enter into and keep covenants with Him.”
— Elder Eduardo Gavarret
For your heart to be changed, you need more than faith. You also need repentance and constant spiritual work. We need our desires to be the desires of God. We need to love the things He loves and hates the things He hates. We need to align ourself with Him.
“No matter how serious the trial, how deep the distress, how great the affliction, [God] will never desert us. He never has, and He never will. He cannot do it. It is not His character [to do so]. …He will [always] stand by us. We may pass through the fiery furnace; we may pass through deep waters; but we shall not be consumed nor overwhelmed. We shall emerge from all these trials and difficulties the better and purer for them.”
— George Q. Cannon
God will never abandon or leave us. We have the choice and ability to leave Him but He will never leave us. He is always there. Trials make us stronger and help us develop the attributes of God.
“And, if you keep my commandments and endure to the end you shall have eternal life, which gift is the greatest of all the gifts of God.”
— D&C 14:7
As we keep the commandments of God and endure to the end will will gain eternal life. Eternal life is the greatest of all gifts that we can get. It’s not easy, and takes a lot of effort, but it’s worth it. It is worth it to keep the commandments and endure to the end.
“For those who have not yet joined the Lord’s restored Church, I invite you to listen to the missionaries with a sincere desire to know what God expects of you and experience that inner transformation.”
— Eduardo Gavarret
If you are not a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, invite the missionaries over! Let them teach you through the spirit! As you sincerely seek for the truth it will be given to you.
“Seek to know God in your closets, call upon Him in the fields. Follow the directions of The Book of Mormon, and pray over, and for your families, your cattle, your flocks, your herds, your corn, and all things that you possess [see Alma 34:18-27]; ask the blessing of God upon all your labors, and everything that you engage in.”
— Joseph Smith Jr.
Pray to God in secret and He will reward you openly. Your relationship with God should not have someone else interfering in it. Your relationship with Him is between you and Him. Know Him personally.
“Today is the day to decide to follow the Lord Jesus Christ. “Lord, I give You my heart; I have nothing more to give You.”
— Eduardo Gavarret
Choose this day who you will serve. Choose Jesus Christ or Satan. Choose happiness or misery. Choose eternal life or eternal death. Today is the day to decide, time is running out.
“People do not join the church because of what they know. They join because of what they feel, what they see and want spiritually. Our spirit of testimony and happiness in that regard will come through to others if we let it.”
— Jeffery R. Holland
We can know the truth of all things through the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost has told me that Christ’s church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I am not a member because of what I know, I am a member because of what I have felt, what God has told me.
“How does a peacemaker calm and cool the fiery darts? Certainly not by shrinking before those who disparage us. Rather, we remain confident in our faith, sharing our beliefs with conviction but always void of anger or malice.”
— Neil L. Andersen
We must remain calm and stand up for our beliefs. We need to have the skill of being a peacemaker, even if it is hard. We must never act or respond out of anger.
“After all that has been said, the greatest and most important duty is to preach the gospel.”
— Joseph Smith
It is a great duty to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. He sent His original apostles to preach the gospel to the whole earth, and that calling still applies to this day. We all can peach the gospel of Christ.
”The first principles of man are self-existent with God. God himself, finding he was in the midst of spirits and glory, because he was more intelligent, saw proper to institute laws whereby the rest could have a privilege to advance like himself. The relationship we have with God places us in a situation to advance in knowledge. He has power to institute laws to instruct the weaker intelligences, that they may be exalted with Himself, so that they might have one glory upon another, and all that knowledge, power, glory, and intelligence, which is requisite in order to save them in the world of spirits.”
— Joseph Smith
We have been given commandments by God to have the ability to advance like himself. God gives us commandments to become like Him, to learn and grow. By keeping His commandments we will gain wisdom.
“Sin, even if legalized by man, is still a sin in the eyes of God.”
— Russell M. Nelson
Man can say whatever they want about sin, but sin is still sin. The commandments of God do not, and cannot, be changed. Truth cannot be changed. The laws of man can and have change, but the laws of God will never change.
“Wherever you are sent, to whichever mission you are assigned, know that a member of the Twelve duly recommended that assignment and you are called by the Lord’s prophet. You are called “by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands.”
— Elder Randy D. Funk
Wherever you are sent on your mission, you have been assigned to that location for a reason. A member of the twelve apostles receives revelation on where you are needed, and where you can do the most good. You are called by The Lord through His prophet.
“Some of the attacks upon the Savior were so malicious that He said nothing…There are times when being a peacemaker means that we resist the impulse to respond and instead, with dignity, remain quiet.”
— Neil L. Andersen
Sometimes being a peacemaker means to not speak. As followers of Christ it is certain we will face many things He did because the world hates Jesus Christ. We will likely eventually be accused of many terrible things when we have done no wrong, the best thing we can do is respond with silence. It doesn’t matter what others say, it only matters what God says.
“I bear witness of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and of His “divine command” to “go ye therefore, and teach all nations.” This is His church, He leads it through living prophets and apostles.”
— Randy D. Funk
Christ has asked us to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He wants as many people as possible to hear the good news, the knowledge of His gospel.
“Peacemakers are not passive; they are persuasive in the Savior’s way. What gives us the inner strength to cool, calm, and quench the fiery darts aimed toward the truths we love? The strength comes from our faith in Jesus Christ and our faith in His words.”
— Neil L. Andersen
Jesus Christ is the ultimate source of peace. He is the prince of peace. Through Him we can have the strength to quench the fiery darts. Through Him we can have peace and be a peacemaker.
“We rejoice in the blessing of agency, understanding that there will be many who do not believe what we believe. In fact, few in the latter days will choose to make their faith in Jesus Christ central to all they think and do.”
— Neil L. Andersen
Very few people in the end will choose Christ. The wheat and tares will and are being separated. If we do not automatically choose Jesus Christ to be the center of our lives, we choose other less important things over Him. Many make that tragic mistake.
“If civilization is to survive the principles of the Prince of Peace must be restored.”
— Franklin D. Roosevelt
The only way for civilization to survive is if we all do what Christ would do. If we only apply His principles in our lives. We must do all we can to restore the principles of The Prince of Peace, for He truly knows how to create peace.
“Why is the reading of the Book of Mormon so important to us today? It is because the major writers of the Book of Mormon fully understood that their writings were primarily for the people of a future generation rather than for the people of their own generation.”
— L. Tom Perry
The Book of Mormon was written for our day. This is why that book is so important. It is also important because it is another testament, or witness, of Jesus Christ. The Bible is the first witness and The Book of Mormon second. Two witness are very powerful.
“Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.”
— Isaiah 49:16
Christ cannot forget you. It is impossible for Him to do so, because upon His hands and feet are engraved the pains He has willingly suffered for you. He cannot forget you and what He did for you because of how much He loves you. Jesus truly knows your name and will not forget you.
“Because of social media platforms, one voice of disbelief can appear to be a multitude of negative voices, but even if it is a multitude of voices, we choose the path of peacemakers.”
— Neil L. Andersen
Social media can make one voice appear to be many. Regardless if it’s one voice or many voices out there trying to fight and create contention, we don’t have to engage. We can instead choose to be a peacemaker.
“Meditation is one of the most secret, most sacred doors through which we pass into the presence of The Lord. Jesus set the example for us…Jesus [went] to what is now known as the mount of temptation. I like to think of it as the mount of meditation where, during the forty days of fasting, He communed with himself and His father, and contemplated upon the responsibility of His great mission.”
— David O. McKay
Meditate upon the words of Christ. Even though the church doesn’t talk a lot about meditation, it can be helpful. Through it we can spiritually and mentally enter into the presence of The Lord. Through it we can better receive revelation.
“In this Church our wards and our quorums do not belong to us. They belong to Jesus Christ. Whoever enters our meetinghouses should feel at home. The responsibility to welcome everyone has growing importance. The world in which we live is going through a period of great upheaval.”
— Gérald Caussé
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints belongs to Jesus Christ. The church buildings and temples we build are His. They are places to become closer to Him, to feel of His spirit, to receive peace.
“We worship God the Eternal Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, not the Prophet Joseph Smith nor any mortal man or woman.”
— Gerrit W. Gong
We do not worship Joseph Smith, Heavenly Mother, or any other man or woman. We only worship God The Father, and His son, The Lord Jesus Christ.
“We’re never alone-at least, we’re alone only if we choose to be alone. We’re alone only if we choose to go through life relying solely on our own strength rather than learning to draw upon the power of God.”
— Sheri L. Dew
We have no strength, we may think we are strong but we are not! We are weak and this is why we just pray always and often, so that God will strengthen us. It is harder to face trials and temptations alone, this is why we need God and His strength.
“You are elect sons and daughters of God. You have the power to overcome the adversary. The adversary, however, is aware of who you are. He knows of your divine heritage and seeks to limit your earthly and heavenly potential by using the three ds: deception, distraction, discouragement.”
— Peter M. Johnson
You are an elect child of the most high God. You have power to defeat Satan and overcome Him, when he tries to distract, deceive, or discourage you.
“Although our humble desire is for the Savior’s teachings to be honored by all, the words of the Lord through His prophets are often contrary to the thinking and trends of the world. It has always been so.”
— Neil L. Andersen
The words of God and the prophets are against the words and things of this world. The things of God are higher than the world’s. The world often rejects the things God and His prophets say, but they will soon regret it when Christ returns.
“Sometimes we hear someone refer to a division in the church. In reality, the church is not divided. It simply means that there are some who, for the time being at least, are members of the church but; unless they repent, they will be missing when the final membership records are recorded.”
— Ezra Taft Benson
Jesus Christ’s church is not divided and it cannot be divided. What actually is happening is that there are “members” that do not agree with the doctrine of Jesus Christ. They think they know better than God and His prophets and apostles, and want things to change. However the doctrine of Jesus Christ cannot be changed. If these so called “members” of His church do not repent, they will be missing when the final membership records are recorded when Christ returns to this earth.
“Jesus taught us to withdraw from the circle of anger and contention. In one example, after the Pharisees confronted Jesus and counseled how they might destroy Him, the scriptures say that Jesus withdrew Himself from them, and miracles occurred as “great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all.”
— Neil L. Andersen
We need to withdraw ourselves from anger and contention, whether that means leaving the presence of some people, or leaving certain situations. We cannot be a peacemaker when we have anger and contention in our hearts and minds.
“We are not obedient because we are blind, we are obedient because we can see.”
— Boyd K. Packer
We follow and keep the commandments of God because we are not blind, we can see. We follow the counsel of past and living prophets because we can see. If we keep the commandments of God and heed the counsel of the prophets, we will not walk in darkness.
”The men and women, who desire to obtain seats in the celestial kingdom, will find that they must battle everyday.”
— Brigham Young
Those that desire to live with God forever, to have seats in the Celestial Kingdom must fight every day. They must fight against the forces of darkness, to put upon themselves the armor of God daily. The adversary will seek many ways to thwart the opportunity of eternal life, we must fight back every day!
“I am inspired by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because while [other] churches are being divided each one in his corner … [you are working] with [others] to help the community in need.”
— Elder Neil L. Andersen Quoting the mayor of Mbuji-Mayi
Members and non members alike are inspired by The Church of Jesus Christ. The church donates millions and serve millions. We should all serve and help others in our communities, because that is what The Lord Jesus Christ would have us do.
“At the Temple the dust of distraction seems to settle out, the fog and the haze seem to lift, and we can ‘see’ things that we were not able to see before and find a way through our troubles that we had not previously known.”
— Boyd K. Packer
The temple is a place of light and truth. It is where the distractions and worries of the world fade away. It is a place of peace and happiness. It is a house of The Lord, the house of revelation and service. The temple truly is a blessing.
“What the members of the church need, more than anything else, are strong testimonies of Jesus Christ and the gospel He restored. They need to know. And they need to know that they know. This is the best protection against the tsunami of temptations and the waves of immorality that crash against us. Perhaps this is just another reason why the first principle of the gospel is faith in the Lord Jesus Christ!”
— John Bytheway
We need to have firm testimonies of Jesus Christ and His restored gospel. We need to know, not just believe but know, without a doubt that Jesus is the Christ and that His church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This knowledge will protect you. This knowledge will help you.
“…faith focused in and on the Lord Jesus Christ fortifies us with spiritual strength. Faith in the Redeemer is a principle of action and of power. As we act in accordance with the truths of His gospel, we are blessed with the spiritual capacity to press forward through the challenges of mortality while focusing on the joys the Savior offers to us.”
— Elder David A. Bednar
Faith in Christ gives us strength. As we use that faith to keep His commandments and to do what He has asked, we will have the ability to press forward in life. We will be able to press forward despite trials being in our way.
“I don’t think He would make excuses for your mistakes. He wouldn’t minimize them. No, He would ask you to repent-to leave your sins behind, to change, so He can forgive you. He would remind you that 2,000 years ago He took those sins upon himself so that you could repent. That is part of the plan of happiness gifted to us from our loving Heavenly Father.”
— Dieter F. Uchtdorf
When we sin and make mistakes, Jesus doesn’t make excuses for us, He instead invites us to repent and change from our ways. Christ took upon Himself your sins, sicknesses, pains, and temptations, so that He would have the power to forgive sin and understand all things that you will and are going through.
“Lehi described multitudes in the great and spacious building that were pointing “the finger of scorn at [him] and those … partaking of the fruit.” His response to the jeers and insults is magnificent and memorable: “But we heeded them not.”
— David A. Bednar
Heed not the wicked. Pay no mind to the unbelieving and the foolish, they just want you to step off of the covenant path. It is hard not to listen to the world but through Jesus Christ you can. Through His power we all can heed not what the wicked may say.
“Because it is broken and torn, each piece of bread is unique, just as the individuals who partake of it are unique. We all have different sins to repent of. We all have different needs to be strengthened through the atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ, whom we remember in this ordinance. Strive to think of His sacrifice as specific and unique to you.”
— Dallin H. Oaks
The sacrament is an opportunity to make a covenant with God to keep the covenants we have made in the past. The sacrament should be a reminder of Christ’s atonement. It should be a time of reflection.
