“We need the Spirit to help us navigate through mortality as we faithfully keep covenants, and we need the sacrament to energize our spiritual being. Renewing our baptismal covenant and partaking of the sacrament drive faithfulness to all other covenants.”
— Adeyinka A. Ojediran
We need the spirit to go through this life and we need the sacrament to help us to keep moving forward in life. When we partake of the sacrament we renew all covenants that we have made. This helps us become more faithful to God and helps us remember because of what Jesus Christ did, we can have the change to return home.
“To be most effective, your experiences with the scriptures must be your own. Reading or hearing about another person’s experiences and insights can be helpful, but that won’t bring the same converting power. There is no substitute for the time you spend in the scriptures, hearing the Holy Ghost speak directly to you.”
— Mark L. Pace
You need to have spiritual experiences on your own, alone, in the scriptures. You need to feel the Holy Ghost while studying the scriptures and you need to hear God’s voice in them. God speaks to us through the scriptures.
“A uniquely valuable teaching to help us prepare for eternal life, “the greatest of all the gifts of God,” is the 1995 proclamation on the family. Its declarations are, of course, different from some current laws, practices, and advocacy, such as cohabitation and same-sex marriage.”
— Dallin H. Oaks
The Family Proclamation is very valuable to us in this day and age, where the world is distorting the view of the family. Even though there are things in it contrary to what people think is acceptable, the words in The Family Proclamation are the truth. Marriage is only to be between one man and one woman and gender is eternal and cannot be changed.
“The danger is that Satan is dimming our light so slowly that darkness seems normal.”
— Neal A. Maxwell
The world is getting darker and Satan is doing this to make it seem like darkness is normal. Darkness is not normal. We need to let light into our lives, and that is through Jesus Christ. He is the light of the world.
Now, how do I know when the Holy Ghost is teaching me? Well, it usually happens in small and simple ways. Sometimes a passage of scripture will seem to jump off the page to my attention. At other times, I feel like my mind is enlightened with a broader understanding of a gospel principle. I also feel the influence of the Holy Ghost when my wife, Anne Marie, and I talk about what we are reading. Her perspectives always invite the Spirit.
— Elder Mark L. Pace
The Holy Ghost can teach us many things. We need to recognize how He speaks to us. The Spirit can comfort us, warn us, and help us know the things we need to know. However it is our job to listen and know how He speaks to us.
“I bear witness that as you regularly partake of the Savior’s emblems through the sacrament, you will have His Spirit to guide you on the covenant path and stay faithful to your covenants. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.”
— Elder Adeyinka A. Ojediran
As we partake of the sacrament weekly and keep the covenants we have made, His spirit will always be with us and we will receive many blessings. It will be easier to survive the week and feel the influence of the spirit.
“Consequently, he seeks to oppose progress toward exaltation by distorting marriage, discouraging childbearing, or confusing gender. However, we know that in the long run, the divine purpose and plan of our loving Heavenly Father will not be changed. Personal circumstances may change, and God’s plan assures that in the long run, the faithful who keep their covenants will have the opportunity to qualify for every promised blessing.”
— Elder Dallin H. Oaks
Satan wants to destroy our chances of obtaining exaltation so what does he do? He distorts marriage, gender and discourages people from having children and encourages abortion. We do not need to listen to the garbage Satan is trying to give us. We can instead partake of the tree of life and keep our covenants. Heavenly Father and good will win in the long run.
“Confidently following the Savior is rewarding, but at times we may get caught in the crosshairs of those advocating an “eat, drink, and be merry” philosophy, where faith in Christ, obedience, and repentance are substituted by the illusion that God will justify a little sin because He loves us so much.”
— Elder Jörg Klebingat
We must not listen to the wicked and worldly and instead confidently follow Jesus Christ. The wicked believe God will allow some sin because He loves us, however no unclean thing can enter into the kingdom of God. God does not allow sin. Do not partake of the things of this world.
“Those who do not fully understand the Father’s loving plan for His children may consider this family proclamation no more than a changeable statement of policy. In contrast, we affirm that the family proclamation, founded on irrevocable doctrine, defines the kind of family relationships where the most important part of our eternal development can occur. That is the context for the unique doctrine and policies of the restored Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”
— Dallin H. Oaks
Many people do not accept The Family Proclamation. Many also do not understand Heavenly Father’s plan for His children. However The Family Proclamation is truth and it tells us what type family we can better succeed in, which is a family with a married mother and father that uphold the laws of God.
“…I have reflected on how much more spiritual wonder, so to speak, that we can and should feel for the gospel of Jesus Christ and the difference it can make in our discipleship and in our journey toward eternal life. The wonder I refer to is the sensation of emotion, awe, or amazement common to all who wholeheartedly center their lives on the Savior and His teachings and humbly recognize His presence in their lives. Such a feeling of wonder, inspired by the influence of the Holy Ghost, stimulates the enthusiasm to joyfully live the doctrine of Christ.”
— Ulisses Soares
We can and should have more spiritual wonder for the gospel of Jesus Christ. His gospel is truly wonderful and we should know how important it is. As we have wonder for the gospel of Jesus Christ, we will have more enthusiasm to live His gospel.
“Because the children of Israel followed the counsel of Moses and acted in faith, they were saved from the plague and, in time, freed from their captivity.”
— Elder Mark L. Pace
Just like the children of Israel, we must also listen to the prophet. If we follow the prophet we will receive many blessings. The prophet is the spokesperson for God and we should take whatever he says very seriously. If the children of Israel didn’t listen to the prophet of that time, they would have died.
“On the outside of our temples, we place the words ”holiness to the Lord.” I know for myself that these words are true. The temple is a holy place where revelation comes to us easily if our hearts are open to it and we are worthy of it.”
—Henry B. Eyring
Temples are truly holy and are the houses of The Lord, just like in the Bible. The house of The Lord is a very sacred and peaceful place to do the work for the dead, to make covenants with God, and to receive revelation and peace.
“When temptation comes around, don’t talk to it. Don’t stick around so you can test how strong you are at resisting it. Don’t explain to it all the reasons why going with it would be a bad idea. Don’t rationalize that you are only going to chit-chat with it a little bit but not go with it. Don’t convince yourself that you are just going to take a stroll with it for a little while and then walk away before you go ’too far.’ Just get away from it.”
— Unknown
(Genesis 39:12)
When you are tempted to do anything wrong, get the heck away from that thing, get away as far as possible. Do not dwell upon the temptation, just get away. Do exactly what Jospeh in Egypt did. If you cannot run away from the temptation, because it is not the type of temptation you can get away from, get out your scriptures or start praying. Rely on the strength of Jesus Christ. Temptations loose their power when He is near.
“…A word about the 15 servants of God seated behind me. While the worldly “say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not,” the faithful are “crowned with blessings from above, yea, and with commandments not a few, and with revelations in their time.”
— Elder Jörg Klebingat
The world thinks the ‘so called apostles and prophets’ do not see or prophecy the truth and things to come. They think the prophets and apostles are old ‘boomers’ and the things they say are outdated. The truth is, is that those that are faithful and listen to Jesus Christ’s apostles and prophets are crowned with blessings from above.
“In many relationships and circumstances in mortal life, each of us must live with differences. As followers of Christ who should love our fellow men, we should live peacefully with those who do not believe as we do.”
— Dallin H. Oaks
In life we will have disagreements with people and we have to learn to live with them. We should treat all with love and try not to create arguments, even if it might be hard at times. Not everyone is going to agree or believe in things as we do.
“My brothers and sisters, when we truly are in awe of Jesus Christ and His gospel, we are happier, we have more enthusiasm for God’s work, and we recognize the Lord’s hand in all things. Additionally, our study of God’s words is more meaningful; our prayers, more intentional; our worship, more reverent; our service in God’s kingdom, more diligent. All these actions contribute to the Holy Spirit’s influence being more frequent in our lives.”
— Ulisses Soares
If we become more in awe of the gospel of Christ we will be happier and have the spirit to be more with us. We become more serious in doing the work of Christ and keeping His commandments. We become more willing to accept the will of the Father, just like Christ accepted the will of our Father.
“Consequently, while some would prefer a God who comes without commandments, let us boldly testify, in the words of Elder D. Todd Christofferson, that “a God who makes no demands is the functional equivalent of a God who does not exist.”
— Elder Jörg Klebingat
Some people think that God doesn’t have commandments. A god that doesn’t give commandments is a god that doesn’t exist. However God is real and He does have commandments.
While some would prefer to be selective in the commandments they follow, let us joyfully accept the Savior’s invitation to “live by every word which proceedeth forth out of the mouth of God.” While many believe the Lord and His Church condone doing “whatsoever [our] heart desireth,” let us valiantly proclaim that it is wrong to “follow a multitude to do evil,” because “crowds cannot make right what God has declared to be wrong.”
— Elder Jörg Klebingat
We cannot choose what commandments to follow or to not follow. We must follow all of them. Let us live by every word of God. People cannot declare what is right and wrong, only God can. Therefore keep and follow all of His commandments, not just the ones you want to.
“The Savior is the source of true peace. Even with the trials of life, because of the Savior’s atonement and His grace, righteous living will be rewarded with personal peace.”
— Quentin L. Cook
Jesus Christ is the only one who can give us true peace. If our foundation is built firmly on Him, we have no need to fear. We all can receive personal peace if we ask Christ for it. We can have peace, even it is appears like the whole world is crashing down upon us.
“I am impressed with the parallel between the way the Lord blessed His people in this Old Testament account and the way He is also blessing His people today.
When the Lord’s living prophet, President Nelson, introduced us to Come, Follow Me as a means of studying the scriptures, he invited us to transform our homes into sanctuaries of faith and centers of gospel learning.”
— Mark L. Pace
Our homes need to be sacred and holy places. A place that is a refuge from the storm. A place where there is peace and where the spirit of God can dwell. Our homes should be a place to learn and gain spiritual knowledge.
“If you feel caught between your discipleship and the world, please remember that your loving Savior “sendeth an invitation … , for the arms of mercy are extended [to you], and he saith: Repent, and I will receive you.”
— Jörg Klebingat
Being a disciple of Jesus Christ is way better than being apart of this world. Jesus Christ accepts all, and denies no one to come unto Him. If you repent He will receive you.
“We may or may not have chariots of fire sent to dispel our fears and conquer our demons, but the lesson is clear. The Lord is with us, mindful of us and blessing us in ways only He can do. Prayer can call down the strength and the revelation that we need to center our thoughts on Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice. The Lord knew that at times we would feel fear.
— Ronald A. Rasband
Christ is with us. Always. Even if we are afraid in life remember that you are not alone and that you will not go through hard times alone. Jesus Christ understands you and knows you. He is with you. Have faith, not fear.
“Through Jesus Christ, we are given the strength to make lasting changes. As we humbly turn to Him, He will increase our capacity to change.”
— Sister Becky Craven
Many people have addictions and things they struggle with. Christ can give you His strength because we have none. He can help you if you let Him. We must humbly turn to Christ and He will help us and cheer us on.
“President Russell M. Nelson taught that Jesus Christ “will perform some of His mightiest works between now and when He comes again.” But he also taught that “those who choose the Lord’s way will likely endure persecution.” Being “counted worthy to suffer shame for his name” may at times be our lot as we “allow His voice to take priority over any other.”
— Jörg Klebingat
If we choose to follow Jesus Christ the road will at times be lonely and we will suffer persecution. Evil will come upon us. If we are worthy to receive such persecution for following Jesus Christ we will have to endure to the end. However we will be blessed for following Christ and letting His voice take priority over everyone else.
“Truth is mormonism. God is the author of it. He is our shield. It is by Him we received our birth. It was by His voice that we were called to a dispensation of His gospel in the beginning of the fullness of times.”
— Joseph Smith JR.
Jesus Christ is the author of His church. He is the founder of it. His church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is truth.
“Such apathy is characterized by the gradual loss of our excitement to engage fully in the Lord’s gospel. It generally begins when we are feeling that we have already attained all the necessary knowledge and blessings for our happiness in this life.”
— Elder Ulisses Soares
When we start to feel less excitement and wonder about the gospel of Jesus Christ, our spiritual momentum decreases and we find ourselves moving slower down the path that leads back home. We need to become humble and realize the wonder of His gospel to start increasing speed down the path. We need more spiritual momentum!
“If we really want to be valiant disciples of Christ, we will find a way. Otherwise, the adversary offers enticing alternatives. But as faithful disciples, “we need not apologize for our beliefs nor back down from that which we know to be true.”
— Elder Jörg Klebingat
We can either be disciples of Christ or we can fall into enticing things that are not so good. Choosing to be a disciple of Jesus Christ is so worth it and we should never apologize for doing so. We have no reason to apologize or back down from what we believe in. Stand strong and tall!
“With this simple observation, the Savior taught us how offerings are measured in His kingdom—and it’s quite different from the way we usually measure things. To the Lord, the value of the donation was measured not by the effect it had on the treasury but by the effect it had on the heart of the donor.”
— Dieter F. Uchtdorf
The offerings we give to Christ’s kingdom are measured differently than in our world. It doesn’t matter how big of something you give to Jesus Christ, it only matters the effect it had on you and how important it is to you.
“These and many other faithful followers of Christ have symbolically placed the blood of the Lamb of God on the entrance to their homes. They are demonstrating their inward commitment to follow the Savior. Their faith precedes the miracle. It is the miracle of one person having an experience in the scriptures and that experience being blessed by the influence of the Holy Ghost.”
— Mark L. Pace
We need to inwardly commit to following Jesus Christ and become His disciples. Following Jesus Christ will never be easy or comfortable, but it will be extremely worth it.
“Eternal doctrine also provides a distinctive perspective on children. Through this perspective we see the bearing and nurturing of children as part of the divine plan. It is a joyful and sacred duty of those given the power to participate in it. Therefore, we are commanded to teach and contend for principles and practices that provide the best conditions for the development and happiness of children under God’s plan.”
— Elder Dallin H. Oaks
The best environment for a child is with a mother and father that teach correct principles. It is a sacred and wonderful duty to raise children and I hope one day I receive that opportunity. Caring for and raising children is apart of God’s plan and we must do all we can do progress His plan.
“My beloved brothers and sisters, in His perfect and infinite love and knowing our human nature, the Savior has established the way for us to avoid falling into the trap of spiritual apathy. The Savior’s invitation gives us a broader perspective, especially considering the complex world in which we live: “Learn of me, and listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit, and you shall have peace in me.”
— Ulisses Soares
Because of Jesus Christ no one is too far gone. Christ descended below all things and He has the power to make you clean through His ultimate sacrifice. Jesus Christ is the way. Come unto Him and learn of Him. Follow Him.
“I testify that Christ lives, that He is our Savior and Redeemer, and that He leads His Church through the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, thus assuring that we are not “tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine.”
— Elder Jörg Klebingat
Jesus Christ lives and His church is on the earth. Christ is the head of His church and He has ordained a prophet and apostles just like in the days of old. We have guidance for these last days. We are never alone.
“Therefore, when we intentionally and truly dedicate ourselves to look unto Him and learn from His perfect example, we come to know Him better.”
— Elder Ulisses Soares
Study the words of Jesus Christ. Ponder them. Pray about them. Apply them to your life. Afterwards look unto Jesus Christ and learn from His perfect example. Be the light of the world and the salt of the earth. Light the world.
“When we study the scriptures, there is no spiritual famine in the land. As Nephi said, “Whoso would hearken unto the word of God, and would hold fast unto it, they would never perish; neither could the temptations and the fiery darts of the adversary overpower them unto blindness, to lead them away to destruction” (1 Nephi 15:24).”
— Mark L. Pace
Feast upon the words of Christ. Scriptures are like food and water, you need to partake of them throughout the day. If you do not, you will become spiritually weaker and your foundation on Jesus Christ may start to crumble. Do not spiritually starve yourself because you would rather do other things. The scriptures are extremely important.
“No unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing”; it will march on triumphantly with or without you or me, so “choose you this day whom ye will serve.” Don’t be fooled or intimidated by the loud adversarial noises emanating from the great and spacious building. Their desperate decibels are no match for the serene influence of the still, small voice upon broken hearts and contrite spirits.”
— Jörg Klebingat
The work of God and the building of His kingdom cannot be stopped. The work will go on with or without us. Do not get distracted by how loud the world is, they will loose in the battle against God. Instead listen for that still, small voice.
“Through sincere prayer and the guidance of the Holy Ghost, they came to believe what they were taught and chose to be baptized and become members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That decision, and their pattern of living since, has blessed Brother and Sister Samad and their family in every aspect of their lives.”
— Elder Randy D. Funk
If you want to know the truth of something you must sincerely pray about that thing and listen for the guidance of the spirit. If you do this the truth will be revealed to you. If you ask you shall receive.
“Yes, the world is in turmoil. And yes, we have weakness. But we do not need to hang our heads in despair, be because we can trust God, we can trust His son, Jesus Christ, and we can accept the gift of the Spirit to guide us on this path toward a life filled with joy and divine happiness.”
— Dieter F. Uchtdorf
This world gets worse and darker by the day. We are not perfect which means we will mess up, however we do not need to be in despair because of the atonement of Jesus Christ. Trust God and let the spirit guide you to happiness and peace.
“I testify that Jesus Christ lives. This is His Church, restored to the earth through the Prophet Joseph Smith. President Russell M. Nelson is the Lord’s prophet today. I love and sustain him. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.”
— Mark L. Pace
Jesus Christ is risen and His church has been restored to the earth through Joseph Smith. Russell M. Nelson at this time of writing is Christ’s prophet today. Listen to the prophet, keep the commandments, and stay on the covenant path.
“As we accept the Savior’s invitation, we demonstrate our humility, our desire to be teachable, and our hope to become more like Him. This invitation also includes serving Him and ministering to God’s children “with all [our] heart, might, mind and strength.” At the core of our effort in this journey are, of course, the two great commandments: to love the Lord our God and love our neighbor as ourselves.”
— Elder Soares
Accept Christ’s invitation. Come unto Him. Learn what He has commanded and what He has taught. If you do so your life will be filled with personal peace and happiness. You will be more like the great teacher, for Jesus Christ is the greatest teacher because He is perfect.
“The most powerful weapons the Lord has given us against all that is evil are His own declarations, the plain simple doctrines of salvation are found in the scriptures.”
— Harold B. Lee
The scriptures are an extremely good weapon against Satan. The basic doctrine of Jesus Christ is within the scriptures, and it can be used to counter the lies of the Devil. Jesus used the scriptures against Satan, and we should do the same.
“But the Good Shepherd—our true shepherd—is always good. Within the fold of God, we experience His watchful, nurturing care and are blessed to feel His redeeming love.”
— Randy D. Funk
We are the sheep and Jesus is the good shepherd. He cares for us and looks out for us. We are able to feel of His love when we are in the fold. If you happen to wander away, you will be found.
“Along with the peaceful direction we receive from the Holy Ghost, from time to time, God powerfully and very personally assures each of us that He knows us and loves us and that He is blessing us specifically and openly. Then, in our moments of difficulty, the Savior brings these experiences to back into our minds.”
— Elder Neil L. Andersen
God through the influence of the spirit can tell us that he knows and and loves us. He can tell us that He cares about us and wants to help us. When trials then come upon us, Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ then can remind us of how they feel about us.
“The blessings that flow into the lives of those who follow the example and teachings of Jesus Christ, who choose to be counted among His disciples, are numerous, joyful, and eternal.”
— Randy D. Funk
Those that follow Jesus Christ receive blessings. You see when you do good you are happy! Happiness only comes from righteousness and doing evil only leads to torment and sorrow. Choose the harder but higher path which is to follow Christ.
“If you ever get tired of everyone having a problem with the things you say, think, or do online when you’re just trying to do your best, remember, Jesus got publicly criticized for healing sick people on the wrong day. Perspective.”
— Elijah Schaffer
Jesus Christ, the most perfect person to ever walk the earth, was publicly criticized for doing good and healing people on the Sabbath. Therefore if you are tired of people telling you what you believe in is false, or that you have a problem, remember you are not alone. Jesus Christ understands perfectly.
“But our common, overall objective is to follow the Way of our Master, Jesus Christ, and return to the presence of our beloved Father in Heaven. This objective must remain constant and consistent, whoever we are and whatever else is happening in our lives.”
— Dieter F. Uchtdorf
Our main objective should be to follow Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the only way to make it back to God, The Father and Heavenly Mother. Regardless of what is happening in life, following Christ should always be our main priority.
“Satan’s lie that you don’t have time to study the scriptures. Choose to take time to study them. Feasting on the word of God each day is more important than sleep, school, work, television shows, video games or social media. You may need to reorganize your priorities to provide time for the study of the word of God. If so, do it.”
— Richard G. Scott
Even when life gets busy we must make time to study our scriptures. It is important to learn the words of God and then apply those words to our lives. The scriptures will give us spiritual power.
“What does this mean for us as disciples of Jesus Christ? It means that if we want to find balance in life, and if we want the Savior to lift us heavenward, then our commitment to Him and His gospel can’t be casual or occasional. Like the widow at Jerusalem, we must offer Him our whole souls. Our offering may be small, but it must come from our heart and soul.”
— Dieter F. Uchtdorf
We need to fully commit to Jesus Christ and His gospel. We are either all in, or not in at all. The choice is yours.
“Being a disciple of Jesus Christ is not just one of many things we do. The Savior is the motivating power behind all that we do. He is not a rest stop in our journey. He is not a scenic byway or even a major landmark. He is “the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by [Jesus Christ].” That is the Way and our ultimate destination.”
— Dieter F. Uchtdorf
Jesus Christ is the way to the end goal. He is the only way back to The Father. Christ should be your motivation, because of Him there is hope, there is a way back home to Heavenly Father.
“The Lord Himself promised that He would direct our paths if we would trust in Him with all our hearts, acknowledging Him in all our ways and not leaning on our own understanding.”
— Ulisses Soares
If we trust God with our whole hearts, and trust Him more than ourselves, He will direct our paths. We will no longer walk in darkness but instead we will walk in light.
“The Lord is aware of the challenges you will face. He knows you, He loves you, and I promise, He will send angles to help you.”
— Elder Carlos A. Godoy
Jesus Christ understands you and what you have and are going though. He suffered the atonement, He understands when no one else does. Because of this and many other reasons, Jesus Christ loves you so much and He will help you. Christ will send angles down from heaven to help you. He will go before your face. He will be on your right hand and on your left, and His angles will be around you, to bear you up.
“The Lord has made wonderful promises that are extended to all those, including us, who seek to learn of Him and incorporate His words into their lives. To Enoch, He said, “Behold my Spirit [shall be] upon you, wherefore all thy words will I justify; and the mountains shall flee before you, and the rivers shall turn from their course; and thou shalt abide in me, and I in you.”
— Ulisses Soares
Seek to learn of Jesus Christ. He set the perfect example on the things we should do. Since Christ is perfect He is the perfect example. He will be within us and around us. Jesus Christ will work miracles in your life.
“Let us have the courage to do what is right, even when it is unpopular; the courage to defend our faith and to act by faith.”
— Alfred Kyungu
At many times in this life we will have to choose the right when it is unpopular. That choice will be hard but it will be worth it. Have the courage to choose the right regardless of what others may think of you. Christ is with you and He will help you.
“Therefore, as we genuinely and continually strive to learn of the Savior and follow His example, I promise you, in His name, that His divine attributes will be written in our minds and hearts, that we will become more like Him, and that we will walk with Him.”
— Ulisses Soares
In order to be like God we must obtain His attributes. If we want His attributes we must learn about His son, Jesus Christ and follow His perfect example. He will teach us and walk with us.
“No amount of personal improvement on our part can make us clean from the sins we have committed or whole from the wounds we have suffered without the Atonement of Jesus Christ. He is our Redeemer.”
— Randy D. Funk
Nothing we can do will remove the red stain of sin from our white garments. We cannot clean ourselves from sin. However the blood of Jesus Christ can clean us through His atonement. Our garments can be spotless because of His great sacrifice because He loves us.
“As we go to the rescue, God gives us power, encouragement, and blessings. When He commanded Moses to rescue the children of Israel, Moses was afraid, just as many of us are afraid. Moses excused himself, saying, ”I am not eloquent, …but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.” The Lord reassured Moses: “Who hath made man’s mouth? …have not I the Lord? ”Now therefore go, and teach thee what thou shalt say.”
— Elder Mervy B. Arnold
If we help others and rescue them, we will receive blessings, power, and encouragement. Moses was afraid when he was sent to rescue and help the children of Israel. God comforted Moses and still sent him to do His work. Your imperfections do not matter.
“Eternal life means to live with God and as He lives. It is “the greatest of all the gifts of God” and will bring a fulness of joy. It is the ultimate purpose and objective of our lives.”
— Randy D. Funk
Our goal is to obtain eternal life, which is to live with God as He lives. To be like Him. To be perfected. Exaltation is the greatest gift we could ever receive.
“Very few of us will ever be asked to sacrifice our lives for the Savior. But we are all invited to consecrate our lives to Him.”
— Dieter F. Uchtdorf
Jesus Christ gave His life for us so we may live a life free from sin if we turn to Him. Christ probably doesn’t expect you to die for Him, however He wants you to dedicate you life to Him.
“My beloved brothers and sisters, I pray that we will ever stand in awe of Jesus Christ and His complete, infinite, and perfect love. May the remembrance of what our eyes have seen and our hearts have felt increase our amazement at the Savior’s atoning sacrifice, which can heal us of our spiritual and emotional wounds and help us to draw closer to Him.”
— Ulisses Soares
It is truly beyond words to describe what Christ did for you. He suffered all pains, afflictions, sicknesses, and even died for you. He did this because He loves you so much, more than you can imagine. We should always remember the spiritual experiences we have felt, so our amazement and awe of what Jesus Christ did for us, will increase.
“Sacrifice and consecration are two heavenly laws that we covenant to obey in the holy temple. These two laws are similar but not identical. To sacrifice means to give something up in favor of something more valuable.”
— Dieter F. Uchtdorf
We make many covenants with God in the temple. When we partake of the sacrament, we renew those covenants with God. We should often remind ourselves of the covenants we have made and how to better keep them.
“When we look at our lives and see a hundred things to do, we feel overwhelmed. When we see one thing—loving and serving God and His children, in a hundred different ways—then we can work on those things with joy.”
— Dieter F. Uchtdorf
We have lots of things to do in life. Oftentimes we may get overwhelmed with the tasks we need to accomplish. But what if we took a step back and look at serving God and His children? Serving others will give us joy and will motivate us to do the things we need to do each day.
“The future is always uncertain. Weather changes. Economic cycles are unpredictable. Disasters, accidents, and illness can change life quickly. These actions are largely beyond our control. But there are some things we can control, including how we spend our time each day.”
— Russell M. Nelson
Life gets insane and we have no control over what is going to happen next. As time goes on, the world will get worse until Christ returns. However we can control our actions and what we do with our time. We can choose to do what is right and be a light within the darkness. We can choose God over the temporary pleasures of this life.
“Because of Christ’s Resurrection, all will be resurrected. After our spirits depart our mortal bodies, we will undoubtedly look forward to when we can again with a resurrected body embrace those we love. We will eagerly look forward to being among those of the First Resurrection.”
— Randy D. Funk
Christ was resurrected and because of that all will be resurrected. All will live again! Our body is a gift from Heavenly Father and it is a gift that will never permanently be taken away.
“The perils of greatest danger come to us from the forces of wickedness. Those forces are increasing. And so it will become more difficult, not easier, to honor the covenants we must make and keep to live the gospel of Jesus Christ.”
— Henry B. Eyring
The forces of evil are increasing. It is going to be hard to choose good over evil but we must not bend. We must keep the commandments and covenants we have made with God, we must not give in.
“My dear brothers and sisters and my dear friends, there will be times when you wish you could do more. Your loving Father in Heaven knows your heart. He knows that you can’t do everything your heart wants you to do. But you can love and serve God. You can do your best to keep His commandments. You can love and serve His children. And your efforts are purifying your heart and preparing you for a glorious future.”
— Dieter F. Uchtdorf
Many people, myself included, wish we could do more than what we already have done, especially with missionary work and church work. But we can’t do everything we want to do, and Heavenly Father knows that and He is pleased with what you have done, and that you want to do more. Do all you can and He will do the rest.
“The companionship of a member of the Godhead, the Holy Ghost, provides much-needed guidance and comfort during this mortal life.”
— Randy D. Funk
The Holy Ghost is very needed as the world gets worse and darker. The spirit will testify the truth to you, warn you of danger, and comfort you. He is a member of the Godhead and The Holy Ghost works with Christ and Heavenly Father.
“But when we enter the fold of God and keep our covenants with Him, we feel the peace of knowing and trusting that Christ will redeem us from our sins, that the separation of our body and spirit will end more quickly, and that we will live eternally with God in a most glorious manner.”
— Randy D. Funk
As we enter into the fold of God, we obtain peace and comfort. Our lives will become better and we will be happier. Our relationship with Jesus Christ will increase. If you have not entered into the fold, I encourage you to do so.
“This is what the widow at the temple treasury seemed to understand. She surely knew that her offering would not change the fortunes of Israel, but it could change and bless her—because, though small, it was her all.”
— Dieter F. Uchtdorf
The widow in the New Testament that Christ and His apostles witnessed, the widow made an offering. The offering appeared to be small but it was all she had. It doesn’t matter the size of your offering, what matters is how the offering blesses you.
“Yes, we should learn from the past, and yes, we should prepare for the future. But only now can we do. Now is the time we can learn. Now is the time we can repent.”
— President Russell M. Nelson
Now is the time. This is your time. This is the time to do the work of The Lord and build His kingdom! This is the time to serve others and gather His sheep! Now is the time, not tomorrow, but now!!!
“The adversary never sleeps. There will always be opposition to the truth. I repeat my urging from this morning to do those things that will increase your positive spiritual momentum, that lift Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf was talking about, that will keep you moving forward through whatever challenges and opportunities come.”
— Russell M. Nelson
There will always be opposition in all things. You cannot have good without evil, a good day without the bad days. However we need to focus on our spiritual momentum to push us further along the covenant path. We cannot let ourselves become distracted to the appealing, yet dangerous temptations of the devil.
“During His earthly ministry, His blessings of healing came to those who trusted Him and acted in faith.”
— Elder Randy D. Funk
Those that trusted in Jesus Christ and acted in faith were healed. Christ healed those people. Even though Jesus isn’t on this earth, He can still heal people, including ourselves, if we trust in Him and act in faith. His miracles continue to this day.
“It is my testimony that when we are righteously standing in our appointed place, even in the midst of bullets flying around us, God will watch over and protect us.”
— David Stock
If we are striving to do what is right and if we repent often, we are righteous. The righteous have no need to fear, for if God is with us who can be against us? There are more of God’s angles than those that seek to destroy you so fear not!
“Positive spiritual momentum increases as we worship in the temple and grow in our understanding of the magnificent breadth and depth of the blessings we receive there. I plead with you to counter worldly ways by focusing on the eternal blessings of the temple. Your time there brings blessings for eternity.”
— Russell M. Nelson
We must keep our covenants with God and our spouse to become exalted in the kingdom of God. This is why gender is so important to all people forever. It cannot be changed. It is vital to God’s plan. This is why Satan is confusing gender.
“I have met many Latter-day Saints like Sharon who feel the inward peace of being securely within the fold of God, especially when temptation, opposition, or adversity comes. They have chosen to have faith in Jesus Christ and to follow His prophet.”
— Randy D. Funk
Enter into the fold of God. Be His. Follow Him. There is peace and protection that you need that only Jesus Christ can give. Put your faith in Jesus Christ and follow Him. Listen to His prophets. He wants you.
“Obedience to God is truly the only way to really be free and exercise our agency. Satan teaches the opposite and, with each wrong choice, binds us with chains. I promise you, obedience is a wonderful privilege.”
— Vaughn J. Featherstone
Many people say keeping God’s commandments prevents you from being happy and free but the opposite it true! By keeping His commandments we are free from addiction, dangerous sins, and the chains that Satan desires to bound us by. By keeping the commandments we are truly free and happy. Obedience to God is freedom.
“We care about being His followers than being ’liked’ by our own followers.”
— Elder Neil L. Andersen
I am a disciple of Jesus Christ. Those that follow Christ should not care what the heck someone thinks about them. They should not care about being liked or popular. Those that follow Jesus Christ will be hated for standing up. Stand for the truth no matter the cost.
“The place to begin is to remember that we are each a beloved child of God and that He has inspired servants. Those servants of God have foreseen the times in which we live. The Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy, “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.”
— Elder Henry B. Eyring
Jesus Christ has prophets and apostles upon to earth to guide His children. Christ speaks through them as He did in the scriptures. It would be wise to listen and obey their counsel.
“It has never been more important than it is now to understand how to build on that sure foundation. For me, there is no better place to look than in the last sermon of King Benjamin, also recorded in the Book of Mormon.”
— Henry B. Eyring
It is critical to have our foundation build firm upon Jesus Christ. We must build our foundation upon Him or else we will fall. All other foundations will fall. Strengthen your faith and trust in Jesus Christ. Know Him.
“Contention violates everything the Savior stood for and taught.”
— Russell M. Nelson
The gospel of Jesus Christ is a gospel of peace. Jesus Christ taught peace and lived peacefully. Contention is not of Christ, it is of the devil. Arguing and fighting is the complete opposite of what Jesus taught and lived.
“King Benjamin describes that change in our natures with a beautiful metaphor that has always touched my heart. It was used by prophets for millennia and by the Lord Himself. It is this: we must become as a child—a little child.”
— Henry B. Eyring
Jesus Christ and others have repeatedly stated that we must become like a little child. Meek, willing to learn, submissive to Him. As we become like a little child we become more like Jesus Christ, for little children are pure and innocent, willing to learn because they don’t know things.
“My dear friends, please continue the journey—and help others—to come fully into the fold of God. The blessings of the gospel of Jesus Christ are immeasurable because they are eternal.”
— Randy D. Funk
Keep doing your best to bring people to Jesus Christ and to His fold. It is worth it. Help Him find that one sheep that isn’t part of the ninety nine.
“The Standard of Truth has been erected; no unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent, till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished, and the Great Jehovah shall say the work is done.”
— Joseph Smith
The Orem Utah Temple fire has been declared as arson. A few weeks ago many church buildings inside and outside of Utah have been vandalized and broken into. The persecution will only increase. The wicked hate the truth and they are trying to stop the work from progressing. I SAY SO WHAT? THE WORK OF GOD CANNOT BE STOPED!!! Even if mobs rage, armies rise against us, even if it appears that Hell is about to devour us, THE WORK CANNOT BE STOPED. The work and truth of God will go forth unto every single person until The Lord Jesus Christ will say the work is finished. NOTHING can stop the work from progressing.
“We may well see being like a child as being weak. Most parents look for the day when their children act less childish. But King Benjamin, who understood as well as any mortal what it meant to be a man of strength and courage, makes it clear that to be like a child is not to be childish. It is to be like the Savior, who prayed to His Father for strength to be able to do His Father’s will and atone for the sins of all of His Father’s children and then did it.”
— Henry B. Eyring
Becoming like a little child is not becoming childish. It is not to act like a child or to be as mature as a child. Becoming like a child means to become like Jesus Christ. It is to acquire His attributes and to do what He did and taught.
“Our watchmen on the tower are known to us as apostles and prophets. They are our spiritual eyes in the sky, and they know through inspiration and insight and pure intelligence, the course these storms may take. They continue to raise their voices in warning to tell us of the tragic consequences of willful and wanton violations of the Lord’s commandments. To intentionally ignore their warnings is to court misery, sorrow, and ruin. To follow them is to follow the chosen servants of the Lord into spiritual pastures of peace and plenty.”
— David R. Stone
Apostles and prophets are watchmen on the tower. They can see things before we can and because they have that responsibility, it is their job to warn us of incoming dangers. It would be very wise to listen what the prophets and apostles have said and what they are saying. Christ speaks through them.
“I love you, my dear brothers and sisters. More important, the Lord loves you. He is your Savior and your Redeemer. He leads and guides His Church. May we be a people worthy of the Lord, who said, “Ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.”
— President Russell M. Nelson
President Nelson has said in the past that He prays for us and that He loves us. Jesus Christ also loves us. Jesus Christ speaks through President Nelson and the other apostles. They want the best for us. Listen to them and their words.
“Our faith in Jesus Christ brings us to repentance and to keeping His commandments. We obey, and we gain power to resist temptation, and we gain the promised companionship of the Holy Ghost.”
— Henry B. Eyring
When you have faith in Christ you start to be led to do good like repenting and keeping His commandments. Your life starts to be a little brighter. Eventually the Holy Ghost is with you more often and you are guided by Him. All it takes is faith.
“Sometimes many weeks pass as we talk about how to help families or individuals who are in special need. We deliberate about who will visit them and the approach to take. Meanwhile, our lost brothers and sisters continue needing and sometimes even calling and pleading for help. We must not delay.”
— Elder Mervyn B. Arnold
We need to help people when they need help. We should not delay, but respond as soon as possible. There are people in this world that God will put in your path to help, it is your choice to either do what Jesus would do, or to pass by unlike the Good Samaritan.
“I solemnly testify that I know Jesus is the good shepherd, that He loves us, and that He will bless us as we go to the rescue. I know He lives; I know it. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.”
— Elder Mervyn B. Arnold
Jesus Christ is the good shepherd. He will and does leave the 99 to find the one. As we go also, and rescue and help those that are in need, Jesus will help us. He will bless us. He wants us to help.
“At the end of our prayers, we need to do some intense listening-even for several minuets. We have prayed for counsel and help. Now we must ”be still and know that [He is] God. (Psalm 46:10)”
— President Spencer W. Kimball
When we have finished praying privately, we should always do this one thing; listen in silence. After we pray we must listen for many minuets. We must listen to God and to feel of His presence. We must be still and know He is the Lord our God.
“I have learned from many experiences that the Holy Ghost speaks most often in a quiet voice, heard most easily when one’s heart is meek and submissive, like that of a child.”
— Henry B. Eyring
The Holy Ghost will most likely speak to us in a still, small voice. We must be still and quiet to be able to hear the spirit speak to us. If you never take time to be in silence you will probably never be able to hear the spirit.
“We ought to have the building up of Zion as our greatest object. When wars come we shall have to flee to Zion. The cry is to make haste.”
— Jospeh Smith
Every day, every year, we are getting extremely close to the return of Jesus Christ. The world is getting completely insane and before we know it we must flee to Zion to escape wickedness and persecution. We must become of one heart and mind with our neighbors. We must be peacemakers.
“People who study the scriptures get a dimension to their life that nobody else gets and that can’t be gained in any way except by studying the scriptures. There’s an increase in faith and a desire to do what’s right and a feeling of inspiration and understanding that comes to people who study the gospel-and who ponder the principles, that can’t come in any other way.”
— Bruce R. McConkie
When you study the scriptures daily, something changes. You and your life change when you daily study the scriptures. I can’t explain what exactly happens but it is like a light enters your life. Things get better, even if your life is hard. If you don’t already study your scriptures every day, do it!
“Prayer is a great tower of strength, a pillar of unending righteousness, a mighty force that moves mountains and saves souls. Through it the sick are healed, the dead are raised, and the Holy Spirit is poured out without measure upon the faithful.”
— Bruce R. McConkie
You can always pray. Pray often. Prayer is a wonderful gift God has given to us to communicate with Him. Many mighty miracles are brought forth by faith and prayer. Always pray.
“When the storms in life come, you can be steady because you are standing on the rock of your faith in Jesus Christ. That faith will lead you to daily repentance and consistent covenant keeping. Then you will always remember Him. And through the storms of hatred and wickedness, you will feel steady and hopeful.”
— Elder Henry B. Eyring
The storms will come into your life and the only way to prepare is to make Jesus Christ your foundation. His foundation is the only foundation that will not fall. By building your foundation upon Christ, even when life gets hard, you can still have peace and happiness within you. The circumstances of your life do not determine your happiness.
“We are followers of the Prince of Peace. Now more than ever, we need the peace only He can bring. How can we expect peace to exist in the world when we are not individually seeking peace and harmony?”
— Russell M. Nelson
We need to be peacemakers and to learn from Jesus Christ, the prince of peace. Only from Christ can we gain true peace. If we are not seeking to be peaceful and a peacemaker, why would we expect there to be peace in the world?
