“There are roots that go back to the ancient tabernacle, and there’s a consistency over time of what Heavenly Father is trying to teach us, and the way He’s trying to teach us. Visitors are having a spiritual experience with the very foundational principles and covenants of holy temples in a way that many have never had before,” Elder Kevin Pearson of the General Authority Seventy and president of the area said.
In Syracuse Utah, a large field next to the Syracuse Utah South Stake center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is a full size replica of The Tabernacle. It has been set up for visitors to see and experience what it was like in the Bible.
Seventy-one stakes in the area of the Utah Layton Mission boundaries got involved with the Bountiful, Layton and Syracuse YSA stakes. More than 5,000 volunteers have been involved with the project so far, most of them are youth ages 12 to 18 and young single adults.
More than 42,000 visitors attended from April 4 to May 5. On May 7 alone, it’s first day open to view, they received 2,100 visitors!
When the visitors arrive, they watch a short video inside before heading outside to tour the tabernacle. After that they go back inside the stake center and go through a visitors center display on the symbols of ancient temples and how they compare and are similar to modern day temples. Every single aspect of the experience points to Jesus Christ and sacred covenants.
