At the end of the sermon on the mount, Jesus Christ said this:

“And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.”

— Matthew 7:26-27

We know from other scripture verses that the only spiritual foundation that will stand is the foundation of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ and His teachings are the rock which we need to build our foundation upon. The wise people build their foundation on Jesus and the foolish people build their foundation on the things of this world.

When “the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew,” those that built their foundation on Christ were not moved. However those that build their foundation upon the world, “fell: and great was the fall of it.”

You may wonder what building your foundation upon has anything to do with people hating the truth and getting angry when the truth is spoken. To understand this we need to go to 2 Nephi 28:28.

“And in fine, wo unto all those who tremble, and are angry because of the truth of God! For behold, he that is built upon the rock receiveth it with gladness; and he that is built upon a sandy foundation trembleth lest he shall fall.”

— 2 Nephi 28:28

Those that have built their foundation upon the world and the things of the world get very angry when they hear the truth. They become angry with the truth and with God because their foundation is built upon the “sand.” They become angry because deep down they fear. They fear that what they are doing is wrong and they don’t want to change. Therefore they get angry and do whatever it takes to stop people that are speaking the truth. However, those that have built their foundation upon the “rock,” when they hear the truth they accept it. That “rock” is Jesus Christ.

I invite all of you to build your foundation upon Christ who is the rock that will never fall. Speak the truth, tell the truth everywhere! Be the light of the world!

When you see people hating the truth and getting angry at anyone or anything that has to do with the truth, you will see those worldly people trying to silence those people or things.

They are angry and deep down they are afraid because even deeper down they know the truth. The truth is in everyone and you just have to seek for that truth. When they are angry, remember they are just afraid and tell them there is a way back, through the atonement of Jesus Christ. And if they don’t want to change, just keep spreading the truth!
