“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
— Ephesians 6:12
In this life, we are constantly attacked by the Devil and many people may appear to become our enemies. However, everyone that lives on the earth is a child of God. God created man and women, therefore a part of God lives inside of everyone. No one is truly your enemy because there is good in everyone and everyone is a child of God. Satan is the great divider. He loves to divide people and put them into groups. Vaccinated against COVID, not vaccinated. Democrat, Republican. It doesn’t matter what group you fall into. Everyone is a child of God and we are all untied because we have a portion of God’s spirit in us.
We fight not against flesh and blood but against evil spirits, darkness and evil. No person is truly your enemy. Take for example the people that called themselves the Anti-Nephi-Lehi’s in the Book of Mormon. They were once a wicked and blood thirsty people but once the gospel was brought to them, they realized their terrible mistakes and repented. They promised God they would never take up arms against anyone and they would never shed blood again.
Their enemies, the wicked and murderous people called the Lamanites, went to the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi and desired to murder them. However, the righteous people feared not and buried their weapons because of the promise they made with God.
“And now, my brethren, if our brethren seek to destroy us, behold, we will hide away our swords, yea, even we will bury them deep in the earth, that they may be kept bright, as a testimony that we have never used them, at the last day; and if our brethren destroy us, behold, we shall go to our God and shall be saved.”
— Alma 24:16
They knew their enemies were not the Lamanites, their enemies were the Devil and his evil spirits. They buried their physical weapons and took up their spiritual weapons against Satan. They chose to follow God and create peace rather than to fall into the pit the Devil dug for them. Now, the Lamanites at this time were at the borders of their city.
“Now when the people saw that they were coming against them they went out to meet them, and prostrated themselves before them to the earth, and began to call on the name of the Lord; and thus they were in this attitude when the Lamanites began to fall upon them, and began to slay them with the sword.”
“And thus without meeting any resistance, they did slay a thousand and five of them; and we know that they are blessed, for they have gone to dwell with their God.”
“Now when the Lamanites saw that their brethren would not flee from the sword, neither would they turn aside to the right hand or to the left, but that they would lie down and perish, and praised God even in the very act of perishing under the sword.“
“Now when the Lamanites saw this they did forbear from slaying them; and there were many whose hearts had swollen in them for those of their brethren who had fallen under the sword, for they repented of the things which they had done.”
— Alma 24:21-24
Don’t you see? No person on earth is our enemy. The Lamanites saw the great evil which they committed and repented. More people were converted unto the Lord than those that died! Satan tried to divide them and make themselves kill each other but all of them eventually came together as one. We shouldn’t fight among each other, verbally or physically, but we should fight against the one who desires to destroy us, the Devil. There is good in everyone on this earth and this right here is evidence of that.
We fight not against flesh and blood but against Satan and his spiritual forces of evil.
