President Russell M. Nelson to date is the oldest prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was born on September 9, 1924 in Salt Lake City, Utah. President Nelson has lived 97 years, seven months and eleven days. President Hinckley is now the second oldest prophet of the church at 97 years, seven months and five days. He died on January 27, 2008. 

President Russell M. Nelson is the second prophet to be called while over the age of 90. The first was Joseph Fielding Smith. Russell M. Nelson was 93 years, five months and six days old, when called to be the prophet. He  was ordained as the 17th prophet in the latter days on January 14, 2018. 

President Russell M. Nelson is also the first prophet to announce the most temples, 100. 17 of those were just announced at the April 2022 General Conference. 

“Jesus the Christ is literally my Savior, my Redeemer, my exemplar and friend,” the prophet said. “I invite all of God’s children on both sides of the veil to come unto their Savior.”
