Temple square for a while has ongoing renovations on building, grounds, and the Main Street Plaza.
The Main Street Plaza connects to both north and south Temple streets at The Church Headquarters. It will be closed starting April 11 for landscaping renewal and renovation. The plaza closure is predicted to remained closed from April 2022 to late 2023.
The area at Temple Square where the North Visitors’ Center was, is being filled up with soil to build a level surface for the future construction of more restrooms.
The Salt Lake Temple has just finished it’s fourth concrete pour, which finished the bottom floor of the north edition of the temple. It is around 40 inches thick and it is extremely reinforced with steel. The beginning of construction for shear walls and columns to support upper floors has started recently.
A new addition to the Church Office Building plaza, which some people are excited for, is that snow-melt conduits are being placed underneath where walkways will be poured with concrete. This will melt the snow during the winter and spring, on the walkways when finished.
