There are lots of commandments given to us in these last days. There are more commandments than the 10 commandments given to Moses.

( Exodus 20:3-17)

There are more commandments that exist than just the 10 commandments. We are given commandments in these last days like the Word Of Wisdom and the Law Of Chastity to protect us and to give us happiness. Keeping the Lord’s commandments will give us peace, happiness, blessings and so much more!

“He [ The Lord ] understands that when we keep the commandments, our lives will be happier, more fulfilling, and less complicated. Our challenges and problems will be easier to bear, and we will receive His promised blessings. But while He gives us laws and commandments, He also allows us to choose whether to accept them or to reject them. Our decisions in this regard will determine our destiny.”

– President Thomas S. Monson

As you can see, commandments don’t restrict us, they protect us from the evils and dangers of this world! Our Heavenly Father loves us so much he has given commandments to us so that we can receive protection.

The world unfortunately is being deceived by Satan. The Devil tells the world good is evil and evil is good. He also often tries to tempt us to commit sin. The worldly things are not accepted by the Lord or his son. The temporary pleasures of the world are not worth it. The pleasures are temporary but the conquenses are eternal and terrible. Engaging in the things of the world can bring us temporary happiness but in the long run, we will be miserable like the Devil if we engage in these practices.

“Disregard for the commandments has opened the way for what I consider to be the plagues of our day. They include the plague of permissiveness, the plague of pornography, the plague of drugs, the plague of immorality, and the plague of abortion, to name just a few. The scriptures tell us that the adversary is “the founder of all these things.”We know that he is “the father of all lies, to deceive and to blind men.”

– President Thomas S. Monson.

I hope you now understand why we have been given commandments and why we should obey them. In the end, keeping Gods commandments gives up eternal happiness, peace and so much more!
