“Several years ago, looking forward to the Old Testament focus of ‘Come, Follow Me’ in 2022, the Scriptures Committee felt it was time to update this resource to bless today’s families, children and youth,” Sister Michelle S. Craig said.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has redone the pictures and writing of “Old Testament Stories” in preparation for the Churchwide Come Follow Me study of the Old Testament in 2022.
The original ‘Old Testament stories’ were created in the 1979s and 80s. They featured popular artwork and stories that blessed many generations. The church has updated the stories and artwork for Come Follow Me 2022.
This three-year project of updating the stories and artwork has resulted in more than 350 new drawings for 50 of the Old Testament stories. Nine stories have been added that were not in the original version. All ‘Old Testament stories’ have been rewritten and translated into more than 60 languages. There has also been animated videos and audio narrations produced in 10 languages for each story.
The ‘Old Testament Stories were redone to help people around the world, specifically kids and youth, strengthen their faith in Jesus Christ and gain a love for the Old Testament.
“Children need the wisdom and impressions from the Holy Ghost that come from learning these stories. Whether they are reading them on their own, seeing the images and hearing the stories while nestled next to a parent or sitting in Primary learning from their teacher, we hope children feel closer to the Savior as they learn from the Old Testament,” said Primary General President Camille N. Johnson.
‘Old Testament Stories’ are available on Gospel Library, the Gospel for Kids app and YouTube. They are also available in print through Store.ChurchofJesusChrist.org or Distribution Centers or bookstores that sell Church resources.
The Church is also redoing the illustrated Doctrine and Covenants, Book of Mormon and New Testament original stories. More information about the plans and timelines for the other updated stories will be announced at a later date.
