“Our prayers are with these missionaries and their families as they recover from this frightening and traumatic experience.”
— Sam Pernod
Seventy full-time missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-dDay Saints have been reported safe after a serious incident during a Friday, November 12, zone conference in Torreón, Mexico.
During this zone conference, two men armed with guns entered the meetinghouse demanding for cellphones, wallets and tablets Sam Pernod, a church spokesman said.
These robbers intimidated the 13 sisters and 57 elders there. A few were hit or kicked during this incident. The mission president and his companion — President Alfredo Zanudo and Sister Guadalupe Zanudo — were also assaulted and threatened with a knife, Sam Penrod said.
Local police were called after the robbers got want they wanted and fled. No one needed any additional medical help. A Church counselor is being sent to Mexico to help with their emotional needs. Other options for counseling are being made available. The missionaries are encouraged to contact their families to receive extra support.
All missionaries have been removed from the area where this all took place. Hopefully those two robbers will be brought to justice.
