Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is the only person to walk the earth that didn’t commit sin. He is the way, truth and light of the world. Only through Him can we return to Heavenly Father.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John 14:6
Because of Him, we have the ability to ask God for forgiveness of our sins, repent, and become better. Jesus died and suffered for all pains, sicknesses, sufferings and sin so we can all return to God and so He can know how to sucker His people.
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5
We also have the ability to be resurrected after death. Christ was the first person to be resurrected and because of this, we can also one day become resurrected. Jesus Christ saves us from sin and from death and that is why He is our savior and redeemer. Jesus also set the perfect example to follow because He was perfect and without sin. Whatever Christ did, do the same as closely as possible.
“Of the Living Christ, the Prophet Joseph wrote: ‘His eyes were as a flame of fire; the hair of his head was white like the pure snow; his countenance shone above the brightness of the sun; and his voice was as the sound of the rushing of great waters, even the voice of Jehovah, saying:
“‘I am the first and the last; I am he who liveth, I am he who was slain; I am your advocate with the Father’ (Doctrine and Covenants 110:3–4).
“Of Him the Prophet also declared: ‘And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives!”
— The Living Christ
One day in the near future, He will once again return to the earth but this time, it will be in all of His glory and power. The first time he came, He saved men and women from their sins. Right before He returns again, He will destroy those that do not repent and commit sin. He will reign upon the earth when He comes again.
“We solemnly testify that His life, which is central to all human history, neither began in Bethlehem nor concluded on Calvary. He was the Firstborn of the Father, the Only Begotten Son in the flesh, the Redeemer of the world.”
— The Living Christ
Why Do I Need Him?
We all need Jesus Christ if you want to receive pure happiness and if you want to live with God again. You see, everyone originally lived with God before they came to earth. We all left His kingdom to be tested and to gain experience. On this earth, we can do whatever we want but that doesn’t mean their won’t be conquenses.
If we want to return to God and seek forgiveness of our sins and mistakes, we need Jesus. Without Him we would be lost in the depths of sorrow, pain and suffering like the Devil because of our bad choices.
“Jesus is important to us because through His Atonement, teachings, hope, peace, and example, He helps us change our lives, face our trials, and move forward with faith as we journey back to Him and His Father.”
— Michael R. Morris
What Can I Learn From Him?
Because Christ set the perfect example on earth, basically everything He did we should do as well. He taught many important things which are in the New Testament.
Jesus said to love your enemies and those that hate you. He said to Love your neighbor as yourself and many, many other important things. All the things He said to do are commandments we must do our best at keeping in order to live with God again.
“The Lord Jesus Christ extends an invitation to learn deeply in two scriptures. The first is Matthew 11:28–29: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”
“The second is Doctrine and Covenants 19:23: “Learn of me, and listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit, and you shall have peace in me.”
“In both passages the Lord extends the invitation: learn of me. As Elder Neal A. Maxwell noted many years ago, this invitation is centered in the redeeming power of the Lord Jesus Christ, and it is an invitation to learn deeply. Elder Maxwell said: “There are many specific ways in which we can liken to ourselves … scriptures about Jesus and the Atonement, but all are covered under this conceptual canopy: ‘Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me.’ In fact, there is no other way to learn deeply!”
— Elder Kim B. Clark
How Can I Follow Him?
If you want to Follow Jesus Christ, let me just put some things out there so you know what you are going to get yourself into. First, if you want to be popular, forget about it. Before Christ comes again, all people who follow Him are going to be hatred. Jesus Christ was never popular. He originally only had 12 followers. Jesus is STILL hated!!! If you are also going to follow Him, you must join His church and keep all of His commandments to the best of your abilities.
“As Jesus taught, those who love Him will keep His commandments. They will be obedient, as President Thomas S. Monson taught this morning. Following Christ is not a casual or occasional practice but a continuous commitment and way of life that applies at all times and in all places.”
— Elder Dallin H. Oaks
Why do people follow Jesus Christ if it just sounds like a lot of work and people will hate them? Well it is a lot of hard work! However it will all be worth it. If you follow Him you will receive eternal happiness and you will be able to live with God forever! Now who doesn’t want that? Apparently most don’t because they don’t follow Him and they would rather be spiritual and physically dumb. You can see the evidence of this because the more wicked people get, the dumber they get.
If you look very closely at the world and the people that are not following Christ, they are mostly not happy. If they are, it isn’t pure happiness. They are experiencing temporary pleasure and happiness which will eventually result in suffering and sorrow. People that are not following Christ are starting to become dumb and more evil. They don’t understand basic logic and they would rather create harm or unhappiness towards others. Those that follow Him are not of this world but are of the world to come. Following Christ in it self is worth it so this doesn’t happen to you.
“Latter-day Saints understand that we should not be “of the world” or bound to “the tradition of men,” but like other followers of Christ, we sometimes find it difficult to separate ourselves from the world and its traditions. Some model themselves after worldly ways because, as Jesus said of some whom He taught, “they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God” (John 12:43). These failures to follow Christ are too numerous and too sensitive to list here. They range all the way from worldly practices like political correctness and extremes in dress and grooming to deviations from basic values like the eternal nature and function of the family.”
— Dallin H. Oaks
What Can Help Me Draw Near Unto Him?
There are many ways to draw near to Jesus Christ but we know if we draw near unto Him, He will draw near unto us.
Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you; seek me diligently and ye shall find me; ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
Doctrine & Covenants 88:63
Some ways we can draw near unto Christ are basic answers like praying to God, keeping the commandments, making Jesus the center of our lives and repenting daily.
“If you want to stay close to someone who has been dear to you, but from whom you are separated, you know how to do it. You find a way to speak to him, you listen to him, and you discover ways to do things for each other. The more often this happens, the longer it goes on, the deeper is the bond of affection. If much time passes without the speaking, the listening, and the doing, the bond weakens.”
“God loves you and offers you the same opportunity to draw closer to Him as would a loving friend. And you do it in much the same way: speaking, listening, and doing.”
— Henry B. Eyring
How Can I Stand As A Witness Of Christ?
If we want to be a witness of Jesus Christ, we need to be more like Him. We need to act as if we are Him. The way we speak, act and think should reflect Him and His ways.
“First of all, in standing as a witness at all times, we promise to love the Lord, to honor Him all the time—daytime and nighttime, summer and winter, good times and bad times—love the Lord and let that love show by the way we live. We also take time to thank Him, take time to ask for help, take time to seek guidance, and then take time to listen. Take time for that still, small voice which will whisper to us, help us, and give us courage.”
— Margaret D. Nadauld
How Do I Show Him My Love?
This question is fairly simple and easy to answer but not as easy to follow. We can show Jesus Christ we love Him by keeping His commandments and following Him.
“If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
John 14:15
