“The most likely cause of the fire is from combustible construction materials that ignited on their own,” Eric Hawkins, a Church spokesman said in a statement on Wednesday, Oct. 20.

No death, Injuries or severe fire damage was reported after a fire was extinguished at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building Wednesday night, in Salt Lake City, Utah. The fire reportedly started on the second-floor roof around 7:00 p.m.

Eric Hawkins expressed gratitude for how fast emergency personal arrived and were able to put out the fire. Afterwards, an investigation began to completely determine how the fire started. “We are also grateful that no one was injured in this incident and that property damage is minimal and the building will be operational tomorrow,” Hawkins said.

SLCFD Captain Anthony Burton said the floors that were affected by the fire were evacuated, and the fire was put down within 30 minutes, according to  Deseret News
