While the COVID-19 cases keep rapidly rising across the globe, the first presidency urged, not commanded, but urged members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to use face masks in public and to get vaccinated.

“To limit exposure to these viruses, we urge the use of face masks in public meetings whenever social distancing is not possible. To provide personal protection from such severe infections, we urge individuals to be vaccinated. Available vaccines have proven to be both safe and effective.” President Russell M. Nelson and his counselors wrote.

It seems interesting that the First Presidency would urge instead of command the members of the church to get vaccinated and wear masks. This may be because our prophet, Russell M. Nelson has emphasized in the past year or so about receiving personal revelation.

I urge you to stretch beyond your current spiritual ability to receive personal revelation, for the Lord has promised that “if thou shalt [seek], thou shalt receive revelation upon revelation, knowledge upon knowledge, that thou mayest know the mysteries and peaceable things—that which bringeth joy, that which bringeth life eternal.” President Nelson said in the 2018 April General Conference.
