“It is more important than ever to make our families the center of our lives and the top of our priorities.”
-L. Tom Perry
Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe that families are very important. The purpose of a family is is to create a stable, safe, and loving environment where husband and wife strengthen each other and support each other. Gay and Lesbian marriages aren’t part of God’s plan. We may not know the reasons for this, but we should follow and trust God because he knows all and he wants to protect us. A family is also where kids can grow, develop and learn right from wrong.
A family isn’t just important in religion. It is also important in the very building blocks of society. Without strong marriages, society wouldn’t prosper and it would crumble. We can always see the effects of divorce on society.
Our religion is unique because we believe that our families live on together, even after death. Families are able to be together forever through God’s plan. Because of the knowledge of families living forever, family history is also very important to us. This is why we perform baptisms and other sacred ordinances inside our temples for our ancestors who have passed on. We are able to live together forever because of powerful covenants we make in God’s temple that allow us to have an eternal marriage. Marriages performed outside the temple only endure for this life. Eternal covenants made with God allow families to be together forever—both during and after mortal life.
“Those who understand the eternal blessings which come from the temple know that no sacrifice is too great, no price too heavy, no struggle too difficult in order to receive those blessings.” -President Monson
