D&C 3: 2 For God doth not walk in crooked paths, neither doth he turn to the right hand nor to the left, neither doth he vary from that which he hath said, therefore his paths are straight, and his course is one eternal round.

For me, this is the most important concept right now. With an influx of information and emotions swirling through the media, it is difficult to keep a clear heart and mind. The one thing we can know for sure is that there is one source that we can always count on. God is at the helm. “Remember, Remember that it is not the work of God that is frustrated, but the work of men.” (D&C 3:3) We can ALWAYS turn to the Lord to help us recenter and focus on what is right, as well as what we need to be doing. The Lord requires us to come to him. It’s part of the agency that we have been gifted. As we do we will feel his support and direction. “He would have supported you against all the fiery darts of the adversary; and he would have been with you in every time of trouble.” (D&C 3:8)

It is difficult to fully rely on the Lord when we are consumed with pleasing man. We must not fear “man more than God.” This can be difficult to understand when we desire to follow the Lord, we pray and study, and do our best to make good decisions. However, the Lord is teaching us that it requires a steadfast, unmovable heart, to move this “marvelous work” forward. We are “in the service of God,” and we must “serve him with all [our] heart, might, mind and strength.” (D&C 4:1-2) The part that catches us in a snare is our minds. When the Lord tells us what to do or say, and our minds justify it. Either we think another day, or we come up with another way, because we fear what others with think. The truth is that God’s ways are always the best ways. “I command you….to repent and walk more up rightly before me, and to yield to the persuasions of men no more.” (D&C 5:21)

Isaiah 55: 8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

The Lord has a work for us to do. “Us” meaning anyone who is willing to set aside the fear of man, and come follow the Lord into the vineyard. “The field is white already to harvest.” (D&C 4:4) The Lords “work shall go forth.” (D&C 3:16) “If ye have a desire to serve God ye are called to the work.” (D&C 4:3) The Lord promises us to work along side us, assisting us the entire time. We must “set at naught the counsels”… and our “own wisdom” and allow God to be our director.” (D&C 3:13) It is time to “repent and walk more rightly before [God], and to yield to the persuasions of men no more.” (D&C 5:22) For He has a “wise purpose” that we cannot always understand or perceive. “Ask, and ye shall receive, knock and it shall be opened unto you.” (D&C 4:7) “Bow down before me, and humble himself in mighty prayer and faith, in the sincerity of his heart.” (D&C 5:24) Through these means we too can be part of this marvelous work and wonder. “Faith hope, charity and love, with an eye single to the glory of God, qualify him for the work.  Remember faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, brotherly kindness, godliness, charity, humility, diligence.” (D&C 4:5-6)
