Mormon 7: 10 And ye will also know that ye are a remnant of the seed of Jacob; therefore ye are numbered among the people of the first covenant; and if it so be that ye believe in Christ, and are baptized, first with water, then with fire and with the Holy Ghost, following the example of our Savior, according to that which he hath commanded us, it shall be well with you in the day of judgment. Amen.
As we seek after the Savior’s love, protection, and guidance, one of the greatest tools we have is His example. The scriptures are full of who Christ was, how He lived, where He kept his focus and how He loves us. It has been suggested that we read the Book of a mormon and highlight every reference of Jesus Christ to help us focus on what’s most important. As we do this, we will start to recognize all of the perfect characteristics that Christ demonstrates for us, giving us a blueprint of how to live our lives. As we better understand Christ, and build a relationship, it will be easier to not only to follow his words, but to follow his example as well. Through this pattern we will be able to avoid the dark attacks of the adversary that are designed to leave us feeling “alone,” “destroyed,” and distant from God. “There are none that do know the true God.” (Mormon 8 4, 2,10) Christ brings all things “out of darkness unto light.” (Mormon 8:16) “The eternal purposes of the Lord shall roll on, until all his promises shall be fulfilled.” (Mormon 8:22)
“The gospel of Jesus Christ is not an obligation; it is a pathway, marked by our loving Father in Heaven, leading to happiness and peace in this life and glory and pinexpressible fulfillment in the life to come. The gospel is a light that penetrates mortality and illuminates the way before us.”
“While understanding the “what” and the “how” of the gospel is necessary, the eternal fire and majesty of the gospel springs from the “why.” When we understand why our Heavenly Father has given us this pattern for living, when we remember why we committed to making it a foundational part of our lives, the gospel ceases to become a burden and, instead, becomes a joy and a delight. It becomes precious and sweet.” -Dieter F. Uchtdorf October 2011
There are four important pieces of advice that Mormon feels are critical for us to comprehend; “Know ye are of the house of Israel…know ye that ye must come unto repentance…know ye that ye must lay down your weapons of war…know ye that ye must…believe in Jesus Christ.” (Mormon 7:2-5) “This is written for the intent that ye may believe.” (Mormon 7:9) As we prayerfully seek Christ’s guidance in these four understandings and work to develop the characteristics that uphold their wisdom we will live “in a state of happiness which hath no end…by the power of God,” (Mormon 7:7,16) regardless of our circumstances. “Cry mightily unto the Father in the name of Jesus Christ.” (Mormon 9:6)
It’s always the easiest to see where others fall short, but the Lord asks us to look inward. As for others, he alone will be the judge and all that is required of us is to love. “Man shall not smite, neither shall he judge; for judgment is mine, saith the Lord.”(Mormon 8:20) “The same that judgeth rashly shall be judged rashly.” (Mormon 8:19)
As we focus on our own repentance and turning our will over to the Father’s, then we shall be awakened. “Which sleep all men shall be awakened by the power of God.” (Mormon 9:13) “Despise not…hearken unto the words of the Lord…doubt not…come unto the Lord with all your heart.” (Mormon 9:27) “Whosoever shall believe in my name, doubting nothing, unto him will I confirm all my words, even unto the ends of the earth.” (Mormon 9:25) “Ask with a firmness unshaken, that ye will yield to no temptation, but that ye will serve the true and living God.” (Mormon 9:28) “Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” (Mormon 9:22)
“We learn of God through Christ’s life; we know God through following Christ’s example. My dear brothers and sisters and friends and listeners, let us truly know our Savior and his Father. We should ask ourselves if our decisions are in accordance with the example of Christ, that we may follow in Christ’s footsteps. Let us not be deceived or dissuaded from Christ’s way, but let us reap the blessings of peace and eternal joy through following him.” -Hans B. Ringger October 1995 “Lord, to Whom Shall We Go?”
