Alma 30: 8 For thus saith the scripture: Choose ye this day, whom ye will serve.
What a “privilege” it is to serve the Lord, and we get to make this conscience decision every single day of our lives, regardless of what the world is screaming at us. Infact, we get the opportunity to stand as a testimony of the goodness of Christ, with boldness, courage, and kindness. “I know there is a God, and also that Christ shall come.” “I have all things as a testimony that these things are true; and ye also have all things as a testimony unto you that they are true.” (Alma 30:39,41) “All things denote there is a God; yea, even the earth, and all things that are upon the face of it, yea, and its motion, yea, and also all the planets which move in their regular form do witness that there is a Supreme Creator.” (Alma 30:44)
“As the world moves further and further away from the principles and guidelines given to us by a loving Heavenly Father, we will stand out from the crowd because we are different. We will stand out because we dress modestly. We will be different because we do not use profanity and because we do not partake of substances which are harmful to our bodies. We will be different because we avoid off-color humor and degrading remarks. We will be different as we decide not to fill our minds with media choices that are base and demeaning and that will remove the Spirit from our homes and our lives. We will certainly stand out as we make choices regarding morality—choices which adhere to gospel principles and standards. Those things which make us different from most of the world also provide us with that light and that spirit which will shine in an increasingly dark world.” -Thomas S. Monson (October 2015)
As we choose the Lord with our actions, dress, thoughts, language, and kindness—Let’s remember the importance of scriptures. “Virtue of the word of God.” (Alma 31:5) “It had had more powerful effect upon the minds of the people than the sword, or anything else.” (Alma 31:5) The scriptures are alive and they are a direct communication between heaven and ourselves. They are a key link to personal revelation. Through prayer and study we will be able to know changes we need to make, lies that are in our lives, and things we need to do. Through the scriptures we will develop a love of the Savior and a desire to share it with others—everyone. “0 Lord, wilt thou grant unto us that we may have success in bringing them again unto thee in Christ.” (Alma 31:34)
“We start by treasuring up His word so its power is within us. He has promised that if we do, we will have “the power of God unto the convincing of men.” -Douglas D. Holmes (April 2018)
As we choose the Savior each day we need to pray to him with the upmost respect and honor and he will bring us peace, comfort, patience, understanding, and success—until we are swallowed up in the joy of Christ. “O Lord, my heart is exceedingly sorrowful; wilt thou comfort my soul in Christ. O Lord, wilt thou grant unto me that I may have strength, that I may suffer with patience these afflictions which shall come upon me.” (Alma 31:30) “The Lord provided for them that they should hunger not, neither should they thirst; yea, and he also gave them strength, that they should suffer no manner of afflictions, save it were swallowed up in the joy of Christ.” (Alma 31:38)
“Anything that opposes Christ or His doctrine will interrupt our joy. That includes the philosophies of men, so abundant online and in the blogosphere, which do exactly what Korihor did.”
“If we look to the world and follow its formulas for happiness, we will never know joy. The unrighteous may experience any number of emotions and sensations, but they will never experience joy! Joy is a gift for the faithful. It is the gift that comes from intentionally trying to live a righteous life, as taught by Jesus Christ.”
“He taught us how to have joy. When we choose Heavenly Father to be our God and when we can feel the Savior’s Atonement working in our lives, we will be filled with joy. Every time we nurture our spouse and guide our children, every time we forgive someone or ask for forgiveness, we can feel joy.” -Russell M. Nelson (October 2016)
