Becoming Converted
—————————————————
“The Apostle Paul taught that the Lord’s teachings and teachers were given that we may all attain ‘the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ’ (Ephesians 4:13). This process requires far more than acquiring knowledge. It is not even enough for us to be convinced of the gospel; we must act and think so that we are converted by it. In contrast to the institutions of the world, which teach us to know something, the gospel of Jesus Christ challenges us to become something.”
(Dallin H. Oaks, “The Challenge to Become,” Ensign, Nov. 2000, 32)
Knowledge alone is not what saves, but knowledge with works or applied knowledge is what leads to our sanctification. A butterfly larva may have all the knowledge possible about how it must go into a cocoon and then go through a process and become a butterfly, but until that larva takes the action and applies that knowledge and undergoes the transformation process it will never become a butterfly. We are no different, we must take action and apply the knowledge of the Gospel of Christ and undergo our own transformation through the atonement, grace and power of Christ. Then and only then can we be transformed and be born again and become His sons and daughters.
