Alma 13:10 …it was on account of their exceeding faith and repentance, and their righteousness before God, they choosing to repent and work righteousness rather than to perish
The power of faith is a challenge that we could focus on every week. As you look for the power of faith in these chapters, and work on recognizing the power of your own faith in your daily life— make the commitment to keep your faith ignited for your entire mortal life. This is a treasure of great worth, it is the power upon which the priesthood of God works. “And this is the manner after which they were ordained—being called and prepared from the foundation of the world according to the foreknowledge of God, on account of their exceeding faith and good works; in the first place being left to choose good or evil; therefore they having chosen good, and exercising exceedingly great faith, are called with a holy calling, yea, with that holy calling which was prepared with, and according to, a preparatory redemption for such.” (Alma 13:3) Faith is an eternal principle that we put into practice as we followed Christ pre-mortally. “This high priesthood being after the order of his Son, which order was from the foundation of the world; or in other words, being without beginning of days or end of years, being prepared from eternity to all eternity, according to his foreknowledge of all things—“ (Alma 13:7)
“Sometimes it’s not easy to develop faith in spiritual things while living in a physical world. But it is worth the effort because the power of faith in our lives can be profound. The scriptures teach us that through faith the worlds were framed, waters were parted, dead were raised, and rivers and mountains were moved from their course.” -Dieter F. Uchtdorf
The power of faith gives us our understanding of the power of redemption, giving an inner strength that can’t be derived any other way! “That thereby the people might know in what manner to look forward to his Son for redemption.” (Alma 13:2) This power of faith allows each of us to embrace repentance with a humble teachable heart, “Ye should humble yourselves before God, and bring forth fruit meet for repentance, that ye may also enter into that rest.” (Alma 13:13) “They were called after this holy order, and were sanctified, and their garments were washed white through the blood of the Lamb.” (Alma 13:11)
Faith helps us avoid sin and procrastination, and allows us, instead, to look forward with hope and excitement. “I wish from the inmost part of my heart, yea, with great anxiety even unto pain, that ye would hearken unto my words, and cast off your sins, and not procrastinate the day of your repentance.” (Alma 13:27) “that ye would humble yourselves before the Lord, and call on his holy name, and watch and pray continually, that ye may not be tempted above that which ye can bear, and thus be led by the Holy Spirit, becoming humble, meek, submissive, patient, full of love and all long-suffering; Having faith on the Lord; having a hope that ye shall receive eternal life; having the love of God always in your hearts, that ye may be lifted up at the last day and enter into his rest.” (Alma 13:28-29)
The power of faith helps us develop trust in the Lord and accept His will in our life. “Be it according to the will of the Lord.” (Alma 14:13) “Angels are declaring it unto many at this time in our land; and this is for the purpose of preparing the hearts of the children of men to receive his word at the time of his coming in his glory.” (Alma 13:24)
The power of faith helps us gain confidence and strength in the gospel and in following God’s laws. “Take courage.” (Alma 15:4) “O Lord, give us strength according to our faith which is in Christ.” (Alma 14:26) “The power of God was upon Alma and Amulek, and they rose and stood upon their feet.”(Alma 14:25) “The Lord had granted unto them power, according to their faith which was in Christ.” (Alma 14:28) “Believest thou in the power of Christ unto salvation?” (Alma 15:6) “O Lord our God, have mercy on this man, and heal him according to his faith which is in Christ.” ( Alma 15:10)
“No matter what occurs, no matter how topsy-turvy the world becomes, you can always have the sustaining power of faith. That will never change. The perfect love of your Father in Heaven will never change. His gospel plan gives life meaning and can assure your happiness. His plan is not only to prove yourself here on earth but also that you may receive the growth that comes from correct decisions prompted by faith, enabled by your obedience.” -Richard G. Scott
Faith in Christ is where we find lasting peace and rest from the concerns and hardships of life. “He is the light and the life of the world; yea, a light that is endless, that can never be darkened; yea, and also a life which is endless, that there can be no more death.” Mosiah 16) “Enter into his rest” (Alma 13:6) “There were many, exceedingly great many, who were pure and entered into the rest of the Lord their God.” (Alma 13:12) “Ye May enter into that rest.” (Alma 13:13) “That they might enter into the rest of the Lord.” (Alma 13:16) “Ye may be lifted up at the last day and entered into his rest.” (Alma 13:29) “That they might receive the word with joy….that they might enter into the rest of the Lord their God.” (Alma 16:17)
D&C 21:9 I will bless all those who labor in my vineyard with a mighty blessing, and they shall believe on his words, which are given him through me by the Comforter, which manifesteth that Jesus was crucified by sinful men for the sins of the world, yea, for the remission of sins unto the contrite heart.
