Mosiah 27:25 And the Lord said unto me: Marvel not that all mankind, yea, men and women, all nations, kindreds, tongues and people, must be born again; yea, born of God, changed from their carnal and fallen state, to a state of righteousness, being redeemed of God, becoming his sons and daughters; 26 And thus they become new creatures; and unless they do this, they can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God.
I love that the Lord is willing to help us walk in newness continually. This new walk is one that includes the perfect guidance of the Good Shepard all along the way, as we strive to follow Him in all that we do and say! “He that will hear my voice shall be my sheep.” (Mosiah 26:21) “Blessed is this people who are willing to bear my name.”( Mosiah 26:18) “They were called the people of God. And the Lord did pour out his Spirit upon them.” (Mosiah 25:24) “If they know me they shall come forth, and shall have a place eternally at my right hand.”(Mosiah 26:24) The greatest way to maintain this newness and to experience continued renewing, is to “pray without ceasing and to give thanks in all things.”(Mosiah 26:39) “The prayers of his servants might be answered according to their faith.” (Mosiah 27:14)
“God invites us to cast our old ways completely out of reach and begin a new life in Christ.” -Dale G. Renlund (“Unwavering Commitment to Jesus Christ” October 2019)
Then comes my favorite part of this new creature that we become in Christ and through Christ—we become an individual and unique a child of a God. New doesn’t mean the same or cookie cutter—new means fresh, light, and restored. Just as we expect to walk into a furniture store and see a variety of “new” furniture…and we would be terribly disappointed if the store was filled with identical items…the Lord expects us to be new and be ourselves. “There should be no persecutions among them, that there should be an equality among all men.” (Mosiah 27:3) Each of us are different, we will have different strengths and different weaknesses, different successes and different struggles. Yet together we create the perfect Kingdom of God—He needs each and every one of us…and we need each other!
“Your needs are great and varied. Each of you is a unique child of God. God knows you individually. He sends messages of encouragement, correction, and direction fitted to you and to your needs.” – Henry B. Eyring “(“Trust in God, then Go and Do” October 2010)
This “newness” can be taught and shared with our families and friends, and that is how the Lords love spreads and how the earth as a whole will become new—one person at a time. “For they did publish peace; they did publish good tidings of good; and they did declare unto the people that the Lord reigneth.” (Mosiah 27:37) “They were instruments in the hands of God in bringing many to the knowledge of the truth, yea, to the knowledge of their Redeemer.”(Mosiah 27:36) “They were desirous that salvation should be declared to every creature, for they could not bear that any human soul should perish; yea, even the very thoughts that any soul should endure endless torment did cause them to quake and tremble. And thus did the Spirit of the Lord work upon them.” ( Mosiah 28:3-4)
