Operation Prepare for Conference – Prepare for Christ
I have been wanting to do more to help myself and others to prepare for this upcoming General Conference, and then I read this Facebook post by Jeffrey R. Holland and it solidified my desire and helped me design the name of these efforts, which is, Operation Prepare for Conference – Prepare for Christ.
“Young friends, I know it will stun you, shock you, perhaps even offend you that I was your age once and can remember some of the challenges I faced, some of the angst I felt as a young adult. I wish to share one profound experience I had as a young adult that has shaped my life.
“As a 19-year-old, I read the Book of Mormon for the first time with “real intent.” It was while reading this sacred record so hungrily, even ravenously, that I felt—again and again—the undeniable whispering of the Holy Ghost declaring to my soul the truthfulness of its message. To those first convictions have been added all the other quickening moments and sanctifying manifestations that now give meaning to my days and purpose to my years. But the Book of Mormon was the first.
“I testify that the Book of Mormon is the sacred expression of Christ’s great last covenant with mankind. Reading it was the beginning of my light. It led me to and taught me to love the Lord Jesus Christ, to glimpse His merciful compassion, and to consider the grace and grandeur of His atoning sacrifice for my sins and the sins of all men, women, and children from Adam to the end of time. The light I walk by is His light. I testify that you can walk by the same light. Seek your witness with “real intent.” Come unto Him and achieve “the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:13). Your life, like mine, will never be the same. https://www.facebook.com/379960392112777/posts/2566258120149649/?substory_index=0
Wow, wow, wow!!! That last paragraph is so powerful! Here is an Apostle of God, declaring to those with ears to hear that he has achieved “the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ” and that because he has, he knows that we can too by the same process. I simply love it. And where does the process start… that’s right, with the Book of Mormon. I don’t believe that the timing is just coincidence, for who translated the Book of Mormon, and was it not the catalyst to the restoration of the church in these latter days? Our prophet has given us all a very special invitation:
“We invite you to be a major part of sharing the message of the ongoing Restoration of the Savior’s gospel. We will share more about this soon, but you can start today by acting on the invitations I extended to you at last general conference to immerse yourself in the glorious light of the Restoration.
“. . . You may wish to begin your preparation by reading afresh Joseph Smith’s account of the First Vision as recorded in the Pearl of Great Price. Or ponder important questions such as ‘How would my life be different if my knowledge gained from the Book of Mormon were suddenly taken away?’ or ‘How have the events that followed the First Vision made a difference for me and my loved ones?’
“Select your own questions. Design your own plan. Act on any of these invitations to prepare yourself for sharing the important messages of the ongoing Restoration. . . . It is your personal preparation that will help April’s general conference become for you not only memorable but unforgettable. The time to act is now. This is a hinge point in the history of the Church, and your part is vital.”
If we heed the prophets challenge, and seek Christ with real intent, we will be on our way to not only making this next conference unforgettable, but achieving “the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ.” In an effort to help myself and each of you to prepare more fully, I will post a new picture quote each week about the restoration. Let us prepare for conference and as we do, we will be preparing for Christ.
