When life is hard, remember – we are not the first to ask, ‘Is there no other way? Jeffrey R. Holland
I love this picture. As I look at it, I try to put myself right next to Him. What is He thinking? What is He feeling? Knowing what He was asked by the Father to do, and knowing the pressure of that weight, it had to have been absolutely crushing. In His own words we get a small glimpse, even though words could never even begin to describe the reality of what He actually suffered.
Doctrine and Covenants 19:18-19
18 Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit—and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink19 Nevertheless, glory be to the Father, and I partook and finished my preparations unto the children of men.
Standing next to Him, in my mind, my struggles seem so petty and insignificant. Although, next to all He suffered they are, I also know that He does truly care about my petty and insignificant struggles— why? Because He personally bore them for me and completely and perfectly overcame them. There it is, that is the key, if we but put our total and complete trust and faith in Him, He will empower us to overcome, just as He overcame.
I love my Savior!!! Yes, He suffered for all mankind, but I love Him even more because He suffered for little ol’ me. What perfect power, what perfect mercy, what perfect grace, and what perfect love!! Let us put our trust in Him and obey His voice, and if we do, no power of darkness will ever prevail against us. He is mighty to save!!
