Ponderize – Ephesians 6:13

“Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”

The next few verses help us to know what “stand” means:

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

It is all broken down for us what each piece of armor represents. “Take” is an action that we must perform. We need to create a way to daily put on each piece of armor. In my opinion, the last verse has the key, “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit.” So, pray always, but the key is the last part, “in the Spirit.” There are a few aspects to praying in the Spirit. First, we are told that everything was created first spiritually and then temporally (D&C 29:31-32). The second aspect is that when we ask in the Spirit, we recieve in the Spirit.

Doctrine and Covenants 46:28, 30-31
28 And it shall come to pass that he that asketh in Spirit shall receive in Spirit;
30 He that asketh in the Spirit asketh according to the will of God; wherefore it is done even as he asketh.
31 And again, I say unto you, all things must be done in the name of Christ, whatsoever you do in the Spirit;

One more scripture: Moroni 7:26
Whatsoever thing ye shall ask the Father in my name, which is good, in faith believing that ye shall receive, behold, it shall be done unto you.

I love it! When we ask in faith, we receive as well. This links asking in faith and asking in the Spirit together and helps us understand how to better ask in the Spirit. As we asks in faith, and if it is good for us and in accordance to the will of God, then the Spirit confirms our faith and places His approval on that request. That is the same as asking in the Spirit, and according to the above scriptures we will recieve.

So, to bring it all together, for us to put on the full armor of God, we must ask and pray in faith/in the Spirit so that we can receive in the Spirit, and it will be done even as we asked, because it will be according to the will of God.

For me, I feel it is important to start my day off with prayer, and also a visualization or meditation that helps me to first create spiritually my day and put on the full armor of God. It helps me to ask in faith and in the Spirit so that I can receive even as I ask. Below is my visualization that I go through each day.

As I read each line, I close my eyes and visualize me stepping into that in my life and having that become a part of my very soul. I then will set some specific intentions around each one.

For example:

  1. I would read: I am faithful!
  2. I close my eyes and visualize me stepping into being “faithful” and having that become a part of my very soul.
  3. I would then start creating this spiritually and with faith. I might visualize something like this: Yes, I am faithful! I am faithful to my Lord and my God, Jesus Christ. I am faithful to His church and building up His kingdom on both sides of the veil. I am faithful to my wife and my children. I am faithful to elevating my beliefs, my thoughts, and my actions above that of this world and becoming a new creature in Christ.
  4. Read the next one and repeat the process.

This has been so powerful for me and I hope this will help others to put on the full armor of God.
