There’s only one way to know if the Book of Mormon is true: you have to READ IT!

Actually, simply reading it is not enough, you must PRAY about it with a sincere desire to know if it’s true. The Lord has given us the Holy Ghost to swell within us as he testifies of truth. When we sincerely seek, prepared to hear the Lord, then we are able to set aside our preconceived notions and traditions and know for ourselves the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon.

Moroni 10:3 Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts.   4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.   5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.

“My dear brothers and sisters, I promise that as you prayerfully study the Book of Mormon every day, you will make better decisions—every day. I promise that as you ponder what you study, the windows of heaven will open, and you will receive answers to your own questions and direction for your own life. I promise that as you daily immerse yourself in the Book of Mormon, you can be immunized against the evils of the day, even the gripping plague of pornography and other mind-numbing addictions.” -President Russell M. Nelson

Every person has to get on his or her knees and ask the Lord for themself. This includes those who grew up in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We each have to pray, ask, and study to receive a personal witness and testimony. Once that testimony has been developed, not borrowed, but earned through earnest studying, it’s hard to destroy. I will forever be in deep gratitude to Heavenly Father for my personal testimony of the Book of Mormon.

I was a young married girl, and I wanted to know for myself if it was honestly true. I read day and night, followed by deep reflection and study of the seminary and institute manuals. I couldn’t get enough; I was obsessed! I prayed with all the energy of my heart. It was the start of a firm testimony rooted in the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. I promised the Lord that if he would give me a clear answer, I would love and live the gospel to the fullest until the day I died.  I received my clear, undeniable answer, and I have done my best to live up to my part of the bargain. The gospel has blessed me in so many ways. It has given me a sure foundation, which has left me with an unquenchable internal peace. As I have studied the last 23 years, my understanding and knowledge has increased 20 fold. The Lord truly does teach us line upon line, here a little, there a little, until we will someday, in the eternities, have a fullness of knowledge and truth. However, he also gives us what we need here on earth, so that we can lead and teach others, bringing peace to all who will listen.

“When I think of the Book of Mormon, I think of the word power. The truths of the Book of Mormon have the power to heal, comfort, restore, succor, strengthen, console, and cheer our souls.” -President Russell M. Nelson

Test it out for yourself! Read the Book of Mormon, and ask the Lord to take away any preconceived ideas, and to allow you to have ears, eyes, and a clear mind to understand His feelings of the Book of Mormon. Commit to following them with exactness. It truly is the word of God, preserved for this day, to help us gather Israel, and to help us have to knowledge and testimony we need to bind Satan in our lives and the lives of our families.

“Any reader who commits to a sincere study of [The Book of Mormon], with the spirit of prayer, will not only learn about Christ but will learn from Christ—especially if they make the decision to “try the virtue of the word” and not reject it prematurely due to prejudiced unbelief by what others have said about things that they have never read.” -Rubén V. Alliaud
