The Spirit can show us our weaknesses, but He is also able to show us our strengths. Sometimes we need to ask what we are doing right so that the Lord can lift and encourage us. When we read our patriarchal blessings, we are reminded that our Heavenly Father knows our divine potential. He rejoices every time we take a step forward. To Him, our direction is ever more important than our speed. -Larry R. Lawrence
I absolutely love this idea of asking the Lord what I’m doing right. I feel like it will give me a boost of energy on my journey back home to my Heavenly Father. Every once in a while we need to all hear that we are doing a good job, that we are working hard, and that our efforts are paying off. I know this is essential at home with my kiddos, they need to feel that I am proud of them. On the days that I pick at them, constantly trying to constructively help them, they start to feel deflated! Positive reinforcement goes a lot further. Let’s take a look at some of the positive reinforcement we have received from the general authorities at general conference.
“We are inspired by your goodness and extraordinary efforts to bring the Savior’s love to your families, neighbors, and friends and to minister to them as He would.” -President Russell M. Nelson
“Many of you are endlessly compassionate and patient with the weaknesses of others. Please remember also to be compassionate and patient with yourself.” -Dieter F. Uchtdorf
“I might go on reminding you of the vast efforts of the good people of this Church in blessing the lives of one another and with an outreach that extends across the world to the poor and distressed of the earth.
There is no end to the good we can do, to the influence we can have with others. Let us not dwell on the critical or the negative. Let us pray for strength; let us pray for capacity and desire to assist others. Let us radiate the light of the gospel at all times and all places, that the Spirit of the Redeemer may radiate from us.” -Gordon B. Hinckley
“The Lord knows how hard you are trying. You are making progress. Keep going. He sees all your hidden sacrifices and counts them to your good and the good of those you love. Your work is not in vain. You are not alone. His very name, Emmanuel, means “God with us.” He is surely with you.” -Sharon Eubank
“If you stumble in that pursuit, so does everyone; the Savior is there to help you keep going. If you fall, summon His strength. Call out like Alma, “O Jesus, … have mercy on me.” He will help you get back up. He will help you repent, repair, fix whatever you have to fix, and keep going. Soon enough you will have the success you seek.” -Jeffrey R. Holland
“You are a child of God. He is the father of your spirit. Spiritually you are of noble birth, the offspring of the King of Heaven. Fix that truth in your mind and hold to it. However many generations in your mortal ancestry, no matter what race or people you represent, the pedigree of your spirit can be written on a single line. You are a child of God.” -Boyd K. Packer
“If today you are a little better than you were yesterday, than that’s enough. -David A. Bednar
-Sherri Jorgensen
