“The healing hands of Jesus Christ reach out to all who seek Him. I have come to know without a doubt that believing and loving God and striving to follow Christ can change our hearts, soften our pain, and fill our souls with “exceedingly great joy.” -Dieter F. Uchtdorf

I am always amazed at how bandages work. My kids can fall and scrape their legs, but they usually don’t cry until they look down and see the blood. At that point it is all out devastation. They suddenly can’t walk, and the tears are on full stream. Then I will wash the sore, and put a bandage on it. The tears dry up, and they go back to their everyday activities as if nothing ever happened. They may have a little limp, or favor that leg for sometime, but they adjust and seem to enjoy life as much as before the wound. The wound is still there for sometime, but it is nicely covered up, and not visible to their sweet, innocent, easily-forgettable minds.

This is how I feel like life’s trials can be. We run into an obstacle. These obstacles vary in size and duration: some are health-related, financial, family discord, or spiritual wandering. Regardless of the trial, often we come to a point where we see it at face value, we understand we are hurt, and we are going to have to get through this. This is the blood. It feels all-consuming and paralyzing. Often at this moment we aren’t sure how we will carry on and we may even wonder “why me?”. Yet, if we look, we can see the Lord standing lovingly at our side ready to carry us, put a bandage on, and help us move forward, almost as if nothing happened. We may have to downsize, or find a new job. We may have to adjust the household to function with the new health issues, or we may have to love and be patient with emotions of a family member. All pf the obstacles we face can be bandaged up so that we can continue to live joyfully, because Christ is our Savior and he knows how to succor us. He fully understands our difficulties, and he wants us to be happy even in the middle of rough times. As we recognize this, our hearts will be filled with gratitude and our attitudes will be changed, which allows our situation to be newly wonderful. Gratitude turns the light on before we reach the end of the tunnel. Gratitude will bring our hearts completely in line with our Saviors so we can feel his love.

“Life may get hard, confusing, painful, and discouraging. I bear you my witness that through the companionship of the Holy Ghost, the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ will cut through the confusion, the pain, and the darkness. Whether it comes in a remarkable burst or in a gentle flow, that glorious spiritual power will infuse healing love and comfort into the repentant, wounded soul; dispel darkness with the light of truth; and cast out discouragement with hope in Christ. We will see these blessings come, and we will know by the witness of the Spirit that it is the Lord Jesus Christ working in our lives. Our burdens truly will be “swallowed up in the joy of [our Redeemer].” -Kim B. Clark
