I’ve been thinking lots about service and society. How we are cautioned against helping others for fear of being taken advantage of. You hear stories of people who make a living out of panhandling and so we avoid helping anyone. I hope that we rise above such cynicism and are willing to help whenever we can. The service rendered isn’t entirely for their sake, it also soothes our own soul and helps us to grow closer to Christ. Let the judgment be on them if they are dishonest, for if we refuse charity, the judgment may be upon us.

“Indolent and unworthy the beggar may be — but that is not your concern: it is better to feed ten impostors than to run the risk of turning away one honest petition.” – Joseph Smith

“I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any by book, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book.” – Joseph Smith.
While this quote seems to challenge the Bible, what the readers of the Book of Mormon know is that it actually supports and reinforces the Bible and if we read, study and abide by these books, we will have invited the Spirit of God into our lives and we will see miracles.

“The Book of Mormon is not only the keystone of our religion, but it can also become the keystone of our testimonies.” – Tad R. Callister

We can talk to a loving father by telling Him about what we are grateful for, worried about or frustrated by. We can spill our hearts out and lean on Him for strength. We can draw closer to our Heavenly Father through our communication with Him, or we can ‘say our prayers.’ How are you making your prayers more meaningful?

“Remember to make your communication with your Heavenly Father real and meaningful, let it become the blessing and privilege it is meant to be.” – Mary Ellen Edmunds

We don’t give toddlers grief for falling while learning to walk, nor should we expect children to understand how tax law. These things are learned as we grow and try new things. That’s life. We learn as we make mistakes. The trick is to actually learn from them and to try to be better, even if it’s in some small way.

“Mistakes are proof you are trying.” – Dieter F. Uchtdorf

We are accountable first and foremost to God! When we know an Eternal Truth, let us be faithful in standing up for those truths. The world will throw a lot at us to try to make us shy away from what we know but always be loyal to God, and He will be loyal to you!

“Though the mob kill us, yet we must die declaring its truth.” – Oliver Cowdery

I’ve seen some beautiful scenes in my time on earth, but if what Elder Packer says is true, I look forward to much greater sights and sounds and growth yet to come. As we go through life, may we each invite the Spirit of God to play an active role in our lives by doing the things that would invite His spirit to be with us, always and in all our various circumstances.

“If all you know is what you see with your natural eyes and hear with your natural ears, then you will not know very much.” – Boyd K. Packer

Sometimes its easy to get weighed down with life’s problems and start to question if anyone truly cares, but I assure you, God is there and He cares. You have people in your life who care, even if they are not great at showing it. Keep moving forward and don’t be afraid to ask for help! No one one said anything about doing this life on our own!

“God is there. He is. Keep going!” – J. Spencer Fluhman

Judging from Pres. Nelson’s words, things are going to be pretty amazing, but they will also get pretty crazy. The more Satan works to derail us from our eternal goal, the more we need to be found doing the things that will keep us on the covenant path. How well we each do in staying on the path will affect how much of Christ’s mighty works we’ll recognize and participate in. Stay on the path, or work to get back on the path. Too much is at stake.

“Our Saviour and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, will perform some of His mightiest works between now and when He comes again.” – Russell M. Nelson

Self care is a major buzzword in the world right now, but it’s good that people are starting to realize how important it is. I’m not here to tell you what your self care is supposed to look like but I will suggest slowing life down by going to the temple has really helped me. Take time for yourself so you’re recharged enough to help others when they need it, cause you can’t help anyone if you’re too burnt out.

“My deepest, most earnest wish for you is that you will be more caring for yourself and as kind to yourself as you would be to a friend in need. You are in need, and you ought to be your own best friends.” – Patricia T. Holland

It’s easy to focus on our lack of progress or even any steps backwards we have taken. That’s Satan working to demoralize you. Focus on today and the small steps you can take to more forward. Invite the Spirit of the Lord into your life by praying for forgiveness of your yesterdays, and strengths for your tomorrows, then ask to feel of His love for you to help be better today! This day is what you can control and Heavenly Father is pleased with any effort we make.

“We must not lose hope. The Lord is pleased with every effort, even the tiny, daily ones in which we strive to be more like Him.” – Ezra Taft Benson

If life were truly fair, none of us would make it. We have all fallen short of our eternal goal. It’s only through Jesus Christ that was can be made whole. Only through Him that we can feel clean again. But this is what life is about, regardless of where we fail and fall short, it’s the learning to trust the Lord and let Him take us where we need to go, for He will truly make more out of us than we could make out of ourselves. He will lift us up.

“None of us are perfect. Sometimes we get stuck. We get distracted or discouraged. We stumble. But if we look to Jesus Christ with a repentant heart, He will lift us up.” – Kim B. Clark
