Last week we ended with the last testimonies of Mathew, Mark, Luke and John, with the resurrection of Christ. As wonderful as it was that HE LIVED, he was still gone from the apostles mortal view. They were used to walking and talking to Jesus. He had been side by side directing them, teaching parables to crowds, healing the sick, and performing miracles. They had also witnessed the sentencing of an innocent, perfect man. They watched as he was scourged and then crucified. Now they were all alone, as followers of Christ. Well aware of the persecutions that lurked near by. I can’t imagine the fear that they must have felt, the overwhelming feeling of loneliness, and the wonder of what to do now.
Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you.
Christ had no intention of leaving his followers alone, he sent them the Holy Ghost, so that they could, “be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Jude’s, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” He sent them the Holy Ghost who would help them discern false doctoring, even when taught with eloquence. He would comfort them when they felt alone, scared, and persecuted. He would warn them of danger and aid them in teach the gospel to others. The Holy Ghost would be their constant companion, leading and guiding them the entire way.
As I read this I felt like he is telling us as well, to stay close to him. He has not left us alone, he is with us right now. As a reminder, he has given us the most precious gift of all, the gift of the Holy Ghost. If we will listen, the Holy Ghost will guide us, perfectly. As we understand this gift, we will feel the Savior laboring next to us. The Holy Ghost, Christ, and Heavenly Father work in perfect unity, one with another. Their relationship is unflawed, unselfish, and entirely focused on Heavenly Fathers grand purposes, which is ultimately to bring joy to all man.
This week’s weekly Challenge is to REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE NOT ALONE! No matter the challenges that you face, you’re not alone! Feel added strength from the Lord, feel a warm hug and His endless love.
“The Lord knows how hard you are trying. You are making progress. Keep going. He sees all your hidden sacrifices and counts them to your good and the good of those you love. Your work is not in vain. You are not alone. His very name, Emmanuel, means “God with us.” He is surely with you.” -Sharon Eubank
