Repentance isn’t the backup plan, it is the plan! Make any effort required to have the Holy Ghost in your life. As you do so, you will move closer to your Heavenly Father and that includes repenting of things that hinder your ability to grow!
“When we sin, we turn away from God. When we repent, we turn back toward God.” – Neil L. Andersen
Instead of lowering the bar to our level, we need raise the standard which we have set and be better. Rise to our challenges and remove those things in our lives which slow us down and stop us from becoming the people we could become.
“If gospel standards seem high and the personal improvement needed int he days ahead seems out of reach, remember Joshua’s encouragement to his people when they faced a daunting future, ‘sanctify yourself … for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.” – Jeffrey R. Holland
We need to be more aware of the blessings in our life and less worried about things that are out of our control. So what if our bodies are getting older and have a few extra pounds, we have a body! It works naturally and for years without a great deal of maintenance! That is such a miracle! Look for the good in everything, and you will see God in your life!
“It is incumbent upon us to rejoice a little more and despair a little less. To give thanks for what we have and for the magnitude of God’s blessings to us. And to talk a little less about what we may not have or what anxiety may accompany difficult times in this or any generation. – Howard W. Hunter
Out of the billions of stars out there, with all of His creative and destructive power to make worlds, its humbling to know that God is still very concerned and invested in each of us. That’s simply because He is our Father!
“God cares about what happens to us and what becomes of us. Indeed, not only is God willing to help, He has the power to help by His omnipotence and by His grace, mercy, and merits of Christ’s Atonement.” – D. Todd Christofferson
I love the story in John about how Christ treated the women who was caught up in Adultery. He didn’t criticize her and build himself up by tearing her down. He spoke to her on her level and told her to ‘go and sin no more.’ We aren’t perfect and neither is anyone else. All we can do is try to be better and try to help others to do the same.
“We’re supposed to be working on perfection, not beating ourselves up for not being there yet.” – Beppie Harrison
We are not expected to be perfect, just to try. Try a little harder to be a little better. Take it day by day, hour by hour, decision by decision. Choose to stay close to the Spirit and you will be giving yourself the best chance at growth! The clock hasn’t struck 12 yet, but it’s nearing, and as long as there’s time, we can be better!
“If you have made covenants, keep them. If you haven’t made them, make them. If you have made them and broken them, repent and repair them. It is never too late so long as the Master of the vineyard says there is time.” – Jeffrey R. Holland
We are each literal spirit children of loving Heavenly Parents who want us to draw close to Them. All things have been done to help us return to live with them again. A perfect plan was created and implemented. Now, all we need to do is strive to keep the commandments and live the Gospel of Jesus Christ as best we can. As we do these things, we will work for and with the Master.
“God did not create our spirits to be independent of Him.” – Neil L. Andersen
If we want our children to grow up and have a testimony of Jesus Christ and His Gospel. It must be present in our family life. It must be evidenced by what we say, by what we do and by who we are.
“Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ.” – The Family: A Proclamation to the World
In an ever widening world, we are all still people, still children of God. We may struggle to agree, we can all agree that kindness costs nothing. We can choose to be kind and empathic towards others, to serve them and even love them. In short, treat them as Christ would have.
“Be kind. Everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” – Marjorie Pay Hinckley
When all is well, we tend to forget how much we rely on our Heavenly Father’s constant blessings. For our health, strength, wisdom, safety and our family. There are no shortage of things to thank God for in our lives. May we never forget His role in our lives.
“May I never forget on my best day, that I still need God as desperately as I did on my worst day.” – Unknown
Striving for more is not a sin. It’s the Holy Spirit becoming us onward and upward. Pressing forward through discouragement and trials will be for our good and will lead us to points in our life we could not reach any other way.
“Let us distinguish more clearly between divine discontent and the devil’s dissonance… When conscience calls to us from the next ridge, it is not only solely to scold but also to beckon.” – Neal A. Maxwell
Like a polished stone, the Atonement helps to smoothen out our rough patches. We can be made better by repenting and following our Saviour. He will lead us and guide and walk beside us.
“The Atonement leaves no tracks, no traces. What it fixes is fixed … What is heals stays healed.” – Boyd K. Packer
