For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. — Isaiah 55:8-9

Setbacks happen, but our loving Heavenly Father beckons us onward and as we seek Him and strive to be better, He will consecrate our efforts and we will conquer the pitfalls of this life. But we must have faith and we must work!

When I was growing up my dad was my hero. Now that I’m a dad, I realize he was actually a superhero! Dad’s have a responsibility to rear their kids in love and righteousness, fatherhood is apprenticeship to Godhood, and I can think of no greater example as an earthly father, or Heavenly Father, as my own Dad. Thanks Dad for the many lessons taught and for the lessons to come!

We have the gift of agency. Ultimately we can choose where we end up; we can choose death, or life eternal. As Pres. Oaks has said, we must see the end from the beginning, and do things that bring us closer to our planned destination.

Things happen! Sometimes we can control them, sometimes we can’t! Dwelling on it won’t change what happened. Stand tall and press forward in your new reality. Put in the work needed to show God and Satan that you’re stronger than the adversity in your life!

There is a need to identify knowledge worthy knowing, work toward attaining that knowledge and more importantly, knowing how to apply it! We have an internet full of information and opinion and we need to know what is valuable and what is background noise. Luckily, we have prophets and apostles who point the way toward which wisdom is of most value.

Jesus Christ is our advocate! Because of the Atonement, He is uniquely qualified to know exactly the trials and struggles we are experiencing! He knows!

I’m feeling like it’s time to take my boys into the mountains. When life starts winding up, and getting almost too busy, I’m grateful for moments to slow things down and reflect on what is most important! For me, the only thing that compares to the peace and solemnity of the temple, is to get out in nature; really out in nature. My boys can’t go to the temple yet, so I’m going to teach them about peace and quiet and slowing things down, and show them a couple of God’s creations in the process. See you all in a few days!

“To marvel at the wonders of the gospel is a sign of faith. It is to recognize the hand of the Lord in our lives and in everything around us. Our amazement also produces spiritual strength. It gives us the energy to remain anchored in our faith.” – Gérald Caussé

Nothing about the refiner’s fire seems fun, but if we want growth, it is essential. Through the experience we learn to cut out non-essential things in our lives, and even the things that lead us into dark paths. But it is far better for us to enter that fire willingly, then to be cast into it, for if we are compelled to be humble, we have a much larger gap to make up.

“Here then is a great truth. In the pain, the agony, and the heroic, endeavors or life, we pass through a refiner’s fire, and the insignificant and the unimportant in our lives can melt away like dross and make our faith bright, intact, and strong.” – James E. Faust

‘Ordinary People Promise To Do More. Extraordinary People Just Do More.’ Or put more simply, actions speak louder than words! We can think and speak of all the good we will do in the world, but unless we act on those thoughts and words, they mean little! Go and do!
