“Easter is the day that changes everything.” -Dieter F. Uchtdorf
I wouldn’t want to know what life would be like without the Savior’s sacrifice. I can’t imagine the pain and anguish that would exist without the constant tender mercies and the relief that He offers all of us. For those times when life feels too much, we have a Savior who carries the load. It reminds me of helping Mark move furniture for one of our moves. I was proud of my strength and how much I was helping him, until he put the couch we were carrying down before I could put my end down. When his help wasn’t available for that split second, I couldn’t even grasp the couch, and my end fell from my hands. I was shocked at the weight that was released, and realized how little I was actually carrying. Thankfully, Christ doesn’t get distracted or tired. He carries us even when we don’t know it. He carries us even when we don’t want the help! He carries us even when we can’t feel it!
“Because Jesus walked such a long, lonely path utterly alone, we don’t have to…” -Jeffrey R. Holland
I have come to believe that life would be unbearable without the Atonement. It’s not just our redemption after death, it’s our survival in mortality. It’s the epitome of love and sacrifice that we should never become complacent or feel entitled to. Christ made the choice to be our Savior. He was the only one that could do it, and he chose to do it. That choice was because he loved us enough. No! He loved us even more than enough–he loved us beyond our capacity to understand. He knew that many would reject him, not just during his mortal life, but forever. He knew that even those who understood the sacrifice he made would fall short, and forget about him; yet, His love was too great, and he came, suffered, and died for each and everyone of us. It’s absolutely miraculous that he had that much love for us! It’s incredibly magnificent that He had the courage and fortitude to resist Satan, even though the forces of evil were stronger than against anyone who ever lived. It is amazingly generous that we can lean on His sacrifice today, tomorrow, and for our entire life.
“By giving His life he opened the door and taught the way by which we could gain Eternal life.” – Harold B. Lee
Easter is all about life and love. If you want to live a little more, then try to love a little better! If you want to “experience” life, then serve others. If you want to feel His redeeming powers to an even greater extent, then follow Him in everything you do and say. Easter is all bout the one. Easter is about the relationship and tender love of Christ for me, for you, and for everyone else. During this Easter season let’s look at others with compassion and tenderness. Let’s celebrate Christ’s sacrifice and love by being a little more like him.
