Have you ever wondered if you would have followed Christ when he came to earth? Would you have recognized him as the King, as our Savior? Would you have been able to stay in His light with the growing commotion and darkness spreading on the perimeter?
Would you have helped Noah build the ark that he claimed was directed by the Lord, even though there was no sign of rain? Would you have stayed faithful as a believer in what he said, as a prophet of the Lord, even though the work was difficult, and long suffering? Would you have joined him in preparing for the unseen journey on water while standing on dry ground? Would you have gathered animals and food sufficient for survival?
Would you have believed young Joseph’s claim of a vision where he saw Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ in person, claiming that none of the churches on earth contained the fullness of truth, including the one you attended. Would you have been as strong as the saints where mobs moved from place to place? Would you have left your warm home, and journeyed across the unsettled, frozen west, with all your little children whom you loved more than yourself?
Would you follow the Lord now if His living prophet invited you to be a part of “the greatest challenge, the greatest cause, and the greatest work on earth”. (President Russell M. Nelson) Would you follow His council with exactness if he invited you to enlist in the Lord’s Battalion to gather Israel? Would you ignore the pressures of the world, put social media aside, and become immersed in the Lord’s word, so that you could help prepare the earth for Christ’s second coming?
“There is no better pattern of life anywhere, no surer way to find peace and the pathway forward, than by following the Lord Jesus Christ. His is the only name given under heaven with the power to make our lives more heavenly. There is no one else whom we can “behold” that has the saving, renewing, transformative power the Savior does.” -Elder L. Whitney Clayton
Our opportunity to answer all these questions, the ones that we want to believe would be a resounding “YES!”, is NOW!! We have been called, we have been chosen to stand side-by-side with the Savior as he puts forth His final effort to redeem the world, gather Israel, and prepare the earth for his second coming. Our day has been prophesied from the beginning of time. President Russell N. Nelson has been schooled and prepared by the Lord to lead us. Now we get to be the fisherman invited to follow him. We get to drop our nets, accept the invitation, and follow Christ! This is history in the making. It’s going to be exciting! “Nothing else compares in magnitude, nothing else compares in importance, nothing else compares in majesty”. (Russell M. Nelson) We have countless warriors in heaven rooting for us, praying for us to help with what they see as absolutely the most important work on earth. Do we trust the Lord enough to join his battalion? There’s one thing for sure? HE TRUSTS US!
“The prophet Nephi exemplified this type of commitment when he prayed: “O Lord, I have trusted in thee, and I will trust in thee forever. I will not put my trust in the arm of flesh.” Nephi was fully committed to doing the Lord’s will. In addition to saying he would “do the things which the Lord hath commanded,” Nephi was unwavering in his commitment to accomplishing his assignments, as illustrated in this statement: “As the Lord liveth, and as we live, we will not go down unto our father in the wilderness until we have accomplished the thing which the Lord hath commanded us.”Because Nephi first trusted in God, God put great trust in Nephi. The Lord blessed him with great outpourings of the Spirit that blessed his life, the lives of his family, and the lives of his people. Because Nephi presided in love and righteousness and provided for and protected his family and people, he records, “We lived after the manner of happiness.” (2 Nephi 4:34, 1 Nephi 3: 7,15, 2 Nephi 5:27) -Elder Richard J. Maynes
Don’t wait to be perfect before following Christ! Come now! He has called everyone, the proud, the selfish, the addicted, the scared, the shy, the humble, the meek, the stubborn, the tall, the short, the old, the young, the sinner, and the saint. He invites all who will listen. Those who accept will be a witness of the resulting incredible transformation that will occur as Christ sanctifies and purifies each one through the power of His blood that he shed for us. He will be the personal guide to direct the work, as the final gathering of Israel, on both sides of the veil is accomplished.
“Our souls should be so deeply rooted in Christ that we will be able to endure any challenge, triumph over any affliction, withstand any attack on our faith, and become like oak trees–firm, immovable, and steadfast, regardless of the heat of the day or the strength of the storm. That kind of rootedness transcends time and outlasts every enemy, even the most subtle, invisible, and insidious ones.” -Elder L. Whitney Clayton
