These two scriptures are so powerful in and of themselves, but together they speak volumns.

John 1:9

That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

John 12:46

I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

The first verse speaks about the Light of Christ which we all have been given. What is this Light of Christ spoken of here? We know it as our conscience. Google defines it as: “an inner feeling or voice viewed as acting as a guide to the rightness or wrongness of one’s behavior.” Moroni quoted his father, Mormon, as follows:

Moroni 7:15-18

15 For behold, my brethren, it is given unto you to judge, that ye may know good from evil; and the way to judge is as plain, that ye may know with a perfect knowledge, as the daylight is from the dark night.

16 For behold, the Spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from evil; wherefore, I show unto you the way to judge; for every thing which inviteth to do good, and to persuade to believe in Christ, is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ; wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of God.

18 And now, my brethren, seeing that ye know the light by which ye may judge, which light is the light of Christ, see that ye do not judge wrongfully; for with that same judgment which ye judge ye shall also be judged.

19 Wherefore, I beseech of you, brethren, that ye should search diligently in the light of Christ that ye may know good from evil; and if ye will lay hold upon every good thing, and condemn it not, ye certainly will be a child of Christ.

Well, there it is, it is the voice of Christ in our mind and heart leading us into all truth, which all truth is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ and persuades us to believe in Christ.

The Light of Christ leads us out of the darkness and into the light, and then if we believe on and lay hold upon Christ we will not abide in darkness (John 12:46).

Google defines abide as: 1. accept or act in accordance with (a rule, decision, or recommendation). 2. be unable to tolerate (someone or something).

I just love how well these two verses in John go together. As we hear and obey the Light of Christ within us, we are lead to Christ and become changed so that we will accept and act in accordance to the Light (Christ) and not tolerate darkness in any of its forms.

Let’s be more diligent in hearing and obeying the voice of Christ within, so we can experience more of this change from darkness to Light.
