We all have BIG prayers that we need answered. They are the ones that put us on our knees and leave us all choked up filled with tears. They are the ones that seem to never be answered. We desire a miracle and instead we feel as if they go unheard. Well, I have discovered that the reason they aren’t answered is because they are BIG…bigger than our understanding. If we could see the end… we would understand, but the unknown is difficult to deal with, because we have to go on faith. We have to have the faith that our Heavenly Father knows the beginning and the end, and that he loves us.
“Somethings can only be learned by faith” – Dallin H Oaks
I have found that Heavenly Father doesn’t want us to live a life full of unanswered prayers. He wants us to feel his love and to know that he IS listening to us. We can’t expect him to throw in all the plans…the BIG plans, just to please fit throwing kiddos. :). Give our Heavenly Father something he CAN answer to let you know he is there for you. When those simple prayers are answered…accept it for what it is….A HUGE HUG FROM HEAVEN!!!
“We have to pray with our eyes on God not on our difficulties.” -Oswald Chambers
Think it about it from your own experience. When your little one wants you to buy them a $350 motorized kid Jeep, but the money in the bank isn’t available for that. It needs to be used to pay the house payment or utilities. The child is crushed…they always wanted a motorized Jeep! Your heart feels for them, yet, you realize that the Jeep is not a necessity, in fact, maybe it is the opposite. There are lessons to be learned…for one, you would rather than them ride their bike, learn coordination and get some good exercise. However, the tears and desperate pleas are hard for you to ignore. And then…the child asks you for a $1 matchbox car. With the most enthusiastic emotion you can muster, you gladly buy them their pick of a matchbox car. This car isn’t a motorized Jeep, however the child loves his new matchbox car and plays all day with it. The child gives you a huge hug in appreciation for their new car.
What a gift, the child ask you for something that you could give them, so that they would know you do hear their wishes. They can feel your desire to love them. However, not at the expense of draining the bank account and leaving a gap in the bills that need to be paid. The child will never understand the bills or the reason why they are important to pay. You understand that the child doesn’t need to fully comprehend the BIG plan….they just need to trust you. Trust you to be their parent and to have their best interest.
“Trust in God, hold on to his love, know that one day the dawn will break brightly, and all the shadows of mortality will flee.” – Jeffrey R. Holland
I recently experienced this exact scenario with my Heavenly Father. My son has been sick for 6 years. It’s heartbreaking beyond explanation to watch your son slowly fade. I’ve prayed so many prayers for healing. Ive cried an enormous amount of tears. We have had endless amounts of tender mercies, so I don’t want to appear ungrateful! I am beyond blessed and grateful…as is my son. But this past week my son had been experiencing an extra difficult time …not feeling well at all. He had a wrestling match, and I knew his bowels had been loose…so I prayed so hard for him to have the strength he needed to finish his match. I pleaded to please protect him from having an accident during his wrestling match. He wrestled and everything was fine. He won the match! It was great. He just had to get through two more. As he sat by me and we tried to get him ready for his next match. His fatigue was so high that he didn’t even feel himself pee. His wrestling onsie had the pee stain, that was not hide-able. I couldn’t believe it, how could this happen after my prayers. I complained to Heavenly Father, asking why? Why? Why? I told my son to go to the restroom and use the dryer to dry his onsie. It didn’t work…it was still extremely visible. The mats where well lit, and the stands where full of fans. I thought about all the testimonies of small faith, and I specifically prayed…begged for the Lord to please help the stain not to show. Right before he was to go to the mat for his next match, I saw him look down and check his situation, and from the expression on his face I could tell that nothing had changed. The two boys walked out the the mat, shook hands and started to wrestle.
The pee stain was GONE! Completely gone! It was the sweetest answer to prayers. I understood that the Lord has heard every prayer I have offered in Luke’s behalf. He loves him even more than I do. I must trust the Lord to know how Luke’s mortality is to play out…and that it is all for Luke’s benefit. It was the sweetest testimony!

So when the BIG picture isn’t possible at the current time, ask the Lord for something smaller, something possible. So he can help you feel loved!! So you can know he hears you!
Don’t get me wrong…with God nothing is impossible…, but there’s a big picture! A picture we don’t understand. Ask the Lord for a small and simple miracle that fits into the big picture.
D&C 6:36 Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not.
