I usually do the full 25 day count down…I decided to do it different this year and just do a 12 down countdown! 12 Days Of Christmas For The Family! Each day we will do a Christmas bonding activity. That’s the main reason I put the effort to do this, it bring the Christmas spirit into the home better than any amount of lights or gifts could. We build strong memories and it’s the best bonding.
Day 1:
I wrapped 12 of our favorite Christmas books! We will open one each night and read it along with our family pray and scriptures.
(This is a day that just keeps giving) 🙂
Day 2:
Gingerbread competition
If you are ambitious you can make your own gingerbread. I’m buying mine this year at Walmart. We have done this different each year! Sometimes we make graham cracker houses and each person is on their own team. Sometimes we pair up. This year we are splitting into two teams and seeing who can make the best themed gingerbread house! I bought extra candy and cookies for the houses.
Day 3:
Go see Santa
My town has Santa downtown each weekend..makes it super festive. They also have free hot cocoa, and carriage rides for a small fee. Makes for the best Christmas spirit.
Day 4:
Candy cane attack
We are going to hang candy canes in someone’s bushes and trees…when they get up in the morning they will have a candy cane attack!
Day 5:
Cutout Christmas cookies decorating and homemade hot cocoa.
This is actually most of the kids favorite tradition. Simple but a goodie. If you don’t want to make your own cookies…you can buy the refrigerator ones or they even have premise cookies to decorate.
Day 6:
Make a Nativity themed after school snack
I just provide different items…graham crackers, marshmallows, coconut, chocolate chips, pretzels, animal crackers…and let them build their own.
You can do any theme!
Day 7:
You’ve been Elf-ed
We leave a Christmas goodie bag on a friend’s door step and then run! It’s a Christmas glorified ding ding ditch!
Day 8: Elf Day
The kids leave their shoes under the tree and in the morning there’s a little Christmas surprise from the elf.
Day 9:
Send the kids to school with a Christmas themed lunch!
Day 10:
Santa clause or Home Alone movie marathon or any other favorite Christmas movie!
Day 11: Homemade cinnamon rolls and egg nog for breakfast
Day 12: Breakfast with Santa
We all dress in our Christmas pj’s and Mark dresses like Santa.
Next day…ITS CHRISTMAS!!!
