Every year around Thanksgiving time I do this challenge. It is a life changing challenge. You don’t realize how much you ask for in prayer until you try hard not to ask for anything. Then your eyes are really opened.
You might ask, “what about asking for a blessing over our food or for safety for that day?” My challenge to you is to change the way you pray, for just one week. Instead of asking for you food to be blessed, thank Him for blessing your food. Instead of asking for safety, thank Him for the safety He will provide you and your family that day. When praying for someone in need, thank Him for the Atonement that can lift and strengthen your loved ones, or thank Him for the Holy Ghost that can send comfort to those you love. If needing help on a test or with a particular problem you could thank Him for your intelligent mind, thank Him for the Holy Ghost that can bring things to your memory, thank Him in advance for the help you are confident He will send you.
It is amazing how this small challenge can really change our perspective. Then on Thanksgiving day you will have a new appreciation and understanding of the word “gratitude”.
