One Sunday, while home from college, I was attending my families ward, and I noticed a girl several years younger than myself whose countenance had clearly darkened. It was apparent she was struggling,. I found her mom, and checked on Susan (name changed), to see if she needed anything? The mom was very optimistic of how amazing Susan was, and how well she was doing. I walked away feeling like this mom was rather naive.

A few months later, I was in the same situation, this time Susan had blue hair, lots of piercings, and her countenance was dropping fast! Once again I asked her mom, what could I do for Susan? Again, her mom chatted with me for sometime, of how wonderful Susan was doing! As I listened to her mom , and looked at her daughter, I couldn’t understand how her mom thought she was talking about the same girl. She was obviously in denial.
Several years later, same situation. This time I had a family! Sitting next to us, was Susan and her family! There sat the most wonderful mother, and follower of Christ! Susan was EVERYTHING her mother had said she was and more!
As a young mom, this was a huge lesson, one I have shared with every mom I can. For I saw with my own eyes, that we must believe in our kids. We must see them for who they are! We must look past their moments of mishap, and look forward to who we know they will become!

As I thought about it, I realized that’s exactly what my own mother had done for me! She believed in me until I became who she knew I was!

Now as a mother of teenagers. It is difficult to watch the adversary attack them ruthlessly! It is difficult to watch them listen to his lies and give in to his endless taunting! However, it is amazing, to watch them shake it off, get up, and STAND TALL again! I can guarantee you that he will not let up! However, these kids are powerful, and they can resist him…especially with the faith of their parents.

Remember our Heavenly Father never gives up on them! He knew them before they came to your home, he knows them now, and everything they are struggling with, and he knows who they can become! We must see them as he sees them…AMAZING!!

They are never out of His reach!!
“However late you think you are, however many chances you think you have missed, however mistakes you feel you have made, or talents you think you don’t have, or however far from home and family and God you have traveled, I testify that you have not traveled beyond the reach of divine love. It is not possible for you to sink lower than the infinite light of Christ’s Atonement shines.” -Jeffrey R. Holland
Pray for your teenagers everyday! Give a hug Everyday!! Tell them you believe in them!!! 🙂
