It threw me off a bit, but sure, if he needed to talk about Satan, then I would answer all his sweet innocent questions! I had no idea that he would give me a new perspective on the power of Satan that has literally changed my life!
Having lived 40+ years, I am well aware of who Satan is and how destructive he can be…and at other times he’s just a nuisance, with his constant lies, and pressure to distract us from what’s important. He’s tactics are so sly and successful, he’s ability to know how to weaken each of us is exhausting!
“Mom, is Satan scary?” his question broke my internal mind rant!
“Yes! He is scary!”
“Like, really Scary? Can he kill you?”
“No he can’t kill you!”
“Can he punch you?”
“No he can’t punch you either?”
“Can he grab your hair?”
“No, he can’t grab your hair!”
He continued with every possible way that one can hurt another…the list was endless!
Can he…choke you, bite you, slap, knock you down, kick, give you a bloody nose….??
Finally, my little one was confused…”I don’t understand, why is he so scary, if can’t do anything to hurt you? I’m not scared of him! He can’t hurt me!”
Wow!!! For the first time I grasped what power Satan has over us! NONE!!! He has no power over us…except what we give him!! He can’t DO ANYTHING TO US!! We are stronger and wiser! We have a body…and he does NOT!! We allow him to pester us…and so he continues to do it!!
It reminds me of the kids copying each other. I can’t think of anything that is more bothersome to my kids than when one of their younger siblings copies them. As they copy the older child, the older child becomes irritated and frustrated! This frustration feeds the younger one, and they just copy more and more…loving the mental agony it is causing their older sibling. I try to tell the one being pestered that if they will simply not be bothered and ignore the younger sibling..that it won’t take long and they will become bored and move on to a different activity. However, the younger sibling has amazing endurance as he can copy for as long as it is entertaining, or in other words, as long as it is successfully irritating the older one!
Bingo…that is how the adversary works. He loves to see us give in to his endless taunting..especially as it causes us grief. The only way to get him of our backs..is to give him zero power! We have to literally not be effected by his lies, and ignore his tactics. As we do this, we become stronger, and our ability to resist his bullying increases. At the same time, he gets bored, knowing that his strategy isn’t working…and will move to other weaknesses …to see if they will work! Which they won’t, because a Satan resistance is being built! 🙂
1 Nephi 22:26 And because of the righteousness of the people, Satan has no power; wherefore, he cannot be loosed for the space of many years; for he hath no power over the hearts of the people, for they dwell in righteousness, and the Holy one of Israel reigneth.
D&C 10:5 Pray always,that you may come off conqueror; yea, that you may conquer Satan, and that you may escape the hands of the servants of Satan that do uphold his work.
Family Home Evening!
This whole topic and visual would make the perfect Family Home Evening…especially on a night when your looking for something quick and fast! Our children are absolutely on constant attack by Satan and his followers! My kids really enjoyed the visual! It was a great one for all ages! I could tell that the younger ones, felt empowered…as they realized they are stronger than Satan!! The older ones, who have had more experiences with his lies, and tricks…realized that they are allowing him in their heads…and they committed to doing the things that help protect our minds from his tactics. (Scriptures, prayer, journal-ling, following Christ)
For a treat…I would do everything white.. since we are emphasizing clean minds!
“Clean Mind Sundae” vanilla ice cream, white chocolate chips, marshmallow topping, vanilla wafers….(oh boy the white possibilities are so fun!) 🙂
