Why a blog? I’m a small town guy from a small valley in a small corner of British Columbia, Canada. What do I have to offer to anyone? The truth is, beyond my own family and my circle of influence, I do not have a great deal to offer anyone. I’m a married Father of four, I love my wife dearly and I’m doing the best I can to raise my boys right, but I’m mostly making this up as I go. All I can expect to accomplish with this Blog is to help myself grow closer to my Heavenly Father, in the process, if anyone finds any comfort or strength in my words, then it is all the better. The important part is that we each bring value to the Kingdom, mine likely won’t even equal five loaves and two small fishes, more like a heel of one loaf and an old can of sardines. Self deprecation aside, I will offer what I can by putting it out there, and letting the Lord make of it what He will.
So, what can you expect from any of my posts? While I have some life experience that will weave its way into my posts, I don’t think that will attract anyone by itself, except that most everyone’s experiences are like mine. We are all human; we make mistakes, forget who we are, rebel against our God, sin, fall, get angry, humble ourselves, repent, and strive to grow. I am completely human and like the Nephites, have peaks and valleys in my personal righteousness that closely follows the pride cycle. I come from a great family, my family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Sweden in the late 1800’s and immigrated to Canada, where they settled in the backwoods of North Western Ontario. They were isolated up there, and did not have contact with the church for many years. That’s a story for another blog, but they were faith filled people and I’m grateful for their example. My wife’s family history is much more closely tied with Church history, with Benjamin Franklin Johnson being an acquaintance of Joseph Smith. These ancestors used the tools they had available to them to grow the Gospel, and I hope to follow in their footsteps and use whatever tools I have to do the same.I was raised in the same small town in which I raise my children. I’m the youngest of six children, and have four of my own. I worked to learn a trade, then sacrificed opportunity and money to take a position that would ensure I didn’t have to work Sundays. I currently have two callings; one in the Stake Young Men’s Presidency and another teaching boys aged 8-11. A lot of what I share will be lessons I tried to teach at Youth Conferences or in my Valiant Sunday School class or through my work experience as an Electrician.
The most important point I try to teach in these opportunities and at home are that each of us are a Child of God, He loves us. He has a Plan for us. All these things are immutable truths. My hope is in knowing these things would grow within each of us a desire to change. My goal would be to help myself and the reader strive to read our scriptures, say our prayers, go to church each week, be humble, serve others, grow closer to our Heavenly Father and be a little better every day. I’m looking forward to this experience and hope you feel inspired to be better. I’m also grateful to Spiritual Crusade for letting me contribute to their website.
