I admit, as a mother of 5 kids under the age of 7, I have moments when I get frustrated, tired, overwhelmed, exhausted, and feel like I can’t keep going. One day as I expressed my feelings of inadequacies to my husband he said, “Debbie, you can hear them, you can actually hear the adversary. They are yelling in your ears and you can hear them. Dont you feel empowered to know that you can hear them?” Then he said something that really hit me, “Debbie just cause you can hear them doesn’t mean you have to listen to them.” It immediately woke me up…it’s true! I was completely allowing the adversary to take over my feeling! I was listening to the wrong influence!
The Holy Ghost also speaks to us on a daily basis but his voice is like a feather, lightweight and still. The scriptures describe it as a small voice, (3 Nephi 11:3). If I’m in a room and I have dozens of people yelling at me or one whispering to me which one am I going to pay attention to? It’s hard to pay attention to the whisper. It takes more effort to notice it. And yet his message is so beautiful. He tells us that we are enough, that we do matter, and that we are loved!
How do you know which voice is which?
The best rule is this…if what your feeling makes you feel better about yourself, and optimistic about the day and the future…then it’s most likely the whisperings of the Holy Ghost.
If it makes you feel lost, confused, alone, unworthy, and abandoned…you can absolutely guarantee it’s from Satan!
