Lesson: Firm and Steadfast in the Faith of Christ By Elder D. Todd Christofferson

What a powerful talk. It is filled with goodness and light. I am super excited to be teaching this lesson. To set the stage, I want you to ponder these scriptures before we jump into the meat of this lesson.

Matthew 6:19-21

19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Our treasure are those things that we focus on, think about, and love. Really think about that, what is your treasure and do you need to make some hard and fast changes to align our treasure too the Lord?

This next quote is powerful! I want you to take a moment and really take it all in. Put yourself by the tree and make it come alive to you.

There are two scriptures here, the first is this concept of “heed them not.” That great and spacious building is always there chanting, mocking, and encouraging us to heed them and step off the straight and narrow path or to leave the Tree of Life. Their promises are enticing and yet empty, their mocking is real and yet lack truth, and their lure is strong and yet resistable with Christ’s light burning brightly within us.

The second one is “overcome by faith.” Quite simply, there is only one name that can bring salvation to our souls and that is our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We must have “perfect faith in the Holy One of Israel, or [we] cannot be saved in the kingdom of God” 2 Nephi 9:23. When the world’s voice is so strong, we must turn to our Savior and exercise perfect faith in Him, and we will be given power to overcome the world.
