I first came up with this quote as a joke. It made me laugh. But then I started to really think about it and began to think of people in my life that realized this first hand.
I have a friend who wanted a bigger house. She got her wish but now complains all the time that it’s too much to clean.
I have another friend who her and her husband didn’t like where they were living so they sold there house and moved to a more expensive neighborhood only to find out that she needed to get a job in order to keep up on their finances.
The stories go on and on. We often think that if we only had [fill in the blank] we would be happy. When in reality we need to find happiness right where we are at.
My mother is a great example of this.  She has an amazing ability to love where ever she lives and be happy with what ever she has or doesn’t have. She used to say, “bloom where your planted”.

One time I called her and they didn’t have any hot water. Instead of complaining about it she went on to tell me all the positive things she was learning from it. Another time I called her to find out she was hang drying her clothes because their dryer wasn’t working. Again, she told me how beautiful it was outside and how therapeutic she found it to hang her clothes.

Another thing she would say often is, “ the grass is greener where you water it.”

Finding happiness in situations where others might be complaining is hard but it is possible. I truly believe that the grass is not greener on the other side. We need to find happiness right where we are at, where ever that may be.
