This morning was an amazing spiritual high. It started out with these words that my sister Debbie texted me.
“In this day and age we spend a lot of time “following” people. We follow them on instagram, Facebook, twitter, YouTube and more. We follow them for various reasons. Some of them have a gift or skill we want to learn more about. We want to cook better so we follow a chef, we want to decorate better so we follow someone with our own taste and style of decorating, we might be a fitness guru or a health guru so we follow people with those gifts and skills. Or we might follow people because we want to get to know them better. We keep in touch with all their current pictures and posts on their lives and their families. And then their are those that we follow just to stay in touch with, but whatever the reason, we spend time each day “following” other people. The question I want to pose is this, how much time do we spend each day “following” the Lord. Do we try and improve on His gifts and talents, do we keep up with His posts (aka the scriptures), do we even try and stay in touch with him? So the next time you head to YouTube, instgram or any other social media to “follow” your friends remember your truest and greatest friend. The one who has done the most for you and spend some time “following” Him.”
As I read these thoughts this scripture came to mind.
2 Nephi 31:12-13
12 And also, the voice of the Son came unto me, saying: He that is baptized in my name, to him will the Father give the Holy Ghost, like unto me; wherefore, follow me, and do the things which ye have seen me do.
13 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, I know that if ye shall follow the Son, with full purpose of heart, acting no hypocrisy and no deception before God, but with real intent, repenting of your sins, witnessing unto the Father that ye are willing to take upon you the name of Christ, by baptism–yea, by following your Lord and your Savior down into the water, according to his word, behold, then shall ye receive the Holy Ghost; yea, then cometh the baptism of fire and of the Holy Ghost; and then can ye speak with the tongue of angels, and shout praises unto the Holy One of Israel. https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/2-ne/31?lang=eng
The amazing thing, is that the thoughts from my sister were in line with and prepared me for my Stake Priesthood Session. The theme was following Christ and becoming like Him and helping other to do the same.
My tears of joy started to flow with the amazing hymn, “I believe in Christ.”
1. I believe in Christ; he is my King!
With all my heart to him I’ll sing;
I’ll raise my voice in praise and joy,
In grand amens my tongue employ.
I believe in Christ; he is God’s Son.
On earth to dwell his soul did come.
He healed the sick; the dead he raised.
Good works were his; his name be praised.
2. I believe in Christ; oh blessed name!
As Mary’s Son he came to reign
’Mid mortal men, his earthly kin,
To save them from the woes of sin.
I believe in Christ, who marked the path,
Who did gain all his Father hath,
Who said to men: “Come, follow me,
That ye, my friends, with God may be.”
3. I believe in Christ–my Lord, my God!
My feet he plants on gospel sod.
I’ll worship him with all my might;
He is the source of truth and light.
I believe in Christ; he ransoms me.
From Satan’s grasp he sets me free,
And I shall live with joy and love
In his eternal courts above.
4. I believe in Christ; he stands supreme!
From him I’ll gain my fondest dream;
And while I strive through grief and pain,
His voice is heard: “Ye shall obtain.”
I believe in Christ; so come what may,
With him I’ll stand in that great day
When on this earth he comes again
To rule among the sons of men.
That is such an amazing song. It enhances my love for the Savior and my desire to do all that is necessary for me to become like Him and one day bath His feet with my tears.
Moroni 10:32
32 Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God. https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/moro/10?lang=eng
I won’t include all my notes from the session, but needless to say, it was an amazing one and packed with stores and content that kept my eyes moist.
The first verse of the closing song was really good too.
Hymn 263 Go Forth with Faith
1. Go forth with faith to tell the world
Of Jesus Christ, the Lord.
Bear witness he is God’s own Son;
Proclaim his wondrous word.
Go forth with hope and courage strong
To spread the word abroad
That people of all nations
Are children of our God.
That is my desire to proclaim Jesus Christ from the house tops. I guess I will have to be content with my blog for now. Let me just say that I love my Savior and desire for all to follow the pleading of the Lord to the young, rich man and to us, “come, follow me.” Luke 18:22.
