As I read the below quote, I thought, that would be a great picture quote. Then after I made the picture quote, I felt prompted to say a few words about it, because it is so powerful. So without further ado here is the quote:
“If we want to have the inspiration of the Holy Ghost, we must find time to slow down, ponder, pray, and live so we are worthy to receive and act upon His promptings. We will avoid major mistakes if we heed His warnings. It is our privilege as members to receive light and knowledge from Him even to the perfect day.” (We Follow Jesus Christ – Quentin L. I decided to look up the definition of privilege, and this is what I found on dictionary.com:
1. a right, immunity, or benefit enjoyed only by a person beyond the advantages of most:
the privileges of the very rich.
2. a special right, immunity, or exemption granted to persons in authority or office to free them from certain obligations or liabilities:
the privilege of a senator to speak in Congress without danger of a libel suit.
3. a grant to an individual, corporation, etc., of a special right or immunity, under certain conditions.
4. the principle or condition of enjoying special rights or immunities.
5. any of the rights common to all citizens under a modern constitutional government:
We enjoy the privileges of a free people.
6. an advantage or source of pleasure granted to a person:
It’s my privilege to be here.
Take any one of those and we see that by simply being members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints we have an advantage over those that are not members. Is this because we are better than others, of course not, it is because we have been given the gift of the Holy Ghost that can be our constant companion if we so live our lives as the above quote expresses. With advantage comes responsibility.
Doctrine and Covenants 82:3
For of him unto whom much is given much is required; and he who sins against the greater light shall receive the greater condemnation. https://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/82?lang=eng
Whether we like responsibility or not, as members of the church we have this greater responsibility. Regardless of how we might try to run away from it, hide from it, or dislike it, we have it, so let’s stop whining and procrastinating and get to work. Let us “find time to slow down, ponder, pray, and live so we are worthy to receive and act upon [the] promptings” of the Holy Ghost.
“It is our privilege as members to receive light and knowledge from Him even to the perfect day.” As we step into and unto our responsibility to be great witnesses of Christ, by obedience to the word of God given to us through the promptings of the Spirit and live in accordance to all the commandments of God, we will be given greater and greater light and knowledge until we become like unto Christ which is the perfect day.
