While Jesus was living on the Earth, there were relatively few people who recognized Him and who He was. When Jesus asked Peter who He was and Peter answered correctly, Jesus told Peter that it was by the Holy Ghost that he came to know that truth.
So… If we do not have the Holy Ghost, we don’t know Him, even if He is standing right in front of us. It is worth giving up all that we have and all that we are to know Him.
Having the Holy Ghost with us requires us to be pure. Being pure means acknowledging that we are imperfect and in need of repenting. Repenting requires that we have a desire to have faith in God. It’s not a one time thing, it’s a process like a refiners fire removing the impurities from gold.
All of us are complex beings with our spirit at our core. We all yearn for this closeness to God because our spirits were with Him before they were here, and they want to go back. He wants us back, but He will force no one to Heaven. We must search it out ourselves.
