For those of you that have read Visions of Glory, this is very interesting. In Visions of Glory and other accounts as well, when they hear their name spoken by the Savior, it is accompanied with great power, feelings of total love from God, and often revelation is received pertaining to their future. That is a such a cool concept since all throughout scripture we read how they heard their names spoken. It adds such a dynamic to the scripture account.
Well, what about the opposite thing? What if the name of Christ is revealed unto the humble seeker of righteousness?
Mosiah 5:7-8
7 And now, because of the covenant which ye have made ye shall be called the children of Christ, his sons, and his daughters; for behold, this day he hath spiritually begotten you; for ye say that your hearts are changed through faith on his name; therefore, ye are born of him and have become his sons and his daughters.
8 And under this head ye are made free, and there is no other head whereby ye can be made free. There is no other name given whereby salvation cometh; therefore, I would that ye should take upon you the name of Christ, all you that have entered into the covenant with God that ye should be obedient unto the end of your lives.
Now, listen to what I found in Enoch, this is very exciting!
Enoch 68:38 They blessed, glorified, and exalted, because the name of the Son of man was revealed to them.
Now, stop reading, go back and read those verses from Mosiah again, with this added perspective.
There is much more to the words of scripture than we can ever fathom. For us to be truly saved, the name of Christ must be revealed to us, and then we must take upon ourselves that name. Herein lies salvation. Thus, truly our knowledge shall save us just like Joseph Smith has declared.
Why is this, “Knowledge does away with darkness, suspense and doubt; for these cannot exist where knowledge is. … In knowledge there is power. God has more power than all other beings, because He has greater knowledge; and hence He knows how to subject all other beings to Him. He has power over all.”
“… A man is saved no faster than he gets knowledge, for if he does not get knowledge, he will be brought into captivity by some evil power in the other world, as evil spirits will have more knowledge, and consequently more power than many men who are on the earth. Hence it needs revelation to assist us, and give us knowledge of the things of God.”
Having the name of Christ revealed to us will give us the greatest knowledge and power that exists.
Enoch 68:41 Everything wicked shall disappear, and depart from before his face; and the word of the Son of man shall become powerful in the presence of the Lord of spirits.
Because his knowledge is greater than those of wickedness, thus he has greater power over all spirits of lesser knowledge.
