Replace contention and pride with forgiveness and love. Gary E. Stevenson

The Savior taught that “contention is not of me” (3 Nephi 11:29). Pride fuels contention (Proverbs 13:10), but disciples of Christ choose a “more excellent way” (1 Corinthians 12:31)—the way of charity (Moroni 7:45–47). Elder Gary E. Stevenson has invited us to let the love of God shape our words, our online presence, and our relationships so we become true peacemakers. Forgiveness quiets the need to be right; love replaces the urge to win with the desire to lift. “Be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another” (Ephesians 4:32). When we do, the Lord’s promise is sure: “Learn of me… and ye shall find rest unto your souls” (Matthew 11:29; see also D&C 19:23).

Try this today:

  • Pause and pray before you respond.
  • Assume good intent and use gentle words.
  • Apologize quickly; forgive fully (Matthew 18:21–22).
  • Do a quiet act of service for someone who has hurt you.

As we replace contention and pride with forgiveness and love, the Holy Ghost fills our homes with peace, and our hearts become more like His.
